Okay for a guy who called Rey an underdeveloped Mary sue and began that whole ridiculous backlash... he himself can't even write a normal, good enough, fully fleshed female character and it wrecks my head. The Elf girl Tikka that Nick had to rescue, first of all damsel in distress trope much and then she followed Ward and Nick for the whole movie was terrible!! At first I was genuinely interested in her I thought she might have come from the past that they talked about in the movie, when there was a war 2000 years previous. Basically because she acted like she had never seen anything in the world ever (or was high as a kite) and she only spoke elvish. What was he going for a born sexy yesterday Leeloo from the Fifth Element type, Dude think of something unique maybe. It took them so long to get any info out of her and you weren't given that much in the end. Also Noomi Rapace's character Leilah was basically just an Evil b!tch with mad fighting skills and that was it... It's just frustrating to know how much hate Max Landis started over Rey and now look what he goes and does in his own story. I actually really liked the film and think it's a good starting point for a series but if that happens drop the old fashioned way of writing women please.

She didn't only speak elvish. As for your other points, Tikka wasn't a complete damsel in distress and fought back a lot. She was scared of the big bads, yes, but only because she had history with them and knew that what they were capable of. Everyone that stood up to them died. The trio only lived to the end cause they continuously ran from them as soon as they had any opening. When they finally stopped running, they also all almost died, but...[the rest is spoilers]

Yes she spoke English at the end after she trusted them, My point about bringing up the Elvish was during that time in the film she was only speaking Elvish and acting like the world was all new to her, so because of that I was thinking she must have a cool backstory... and then, nothing! She was in the cult with her sister but she couldn't fight as well as them? Yes she was scared of the big bads and acted like a damsel in distress. The first thing she said was protect me and protect the wand. I didn't see her fighting herself much at all I did see her being clever and using things around her but also passing stuff on to others for fighting, not much actual fighting herself. It's really not the fighting that is the problem for me it's her weak backstory at the same time as we were being lead to believe she was important. Yes they ran and it's what kept them alive but that has nothing to do with how poorly the female characters were written in this. As far as spoilers go I don't think you should be reading these boards until after you've seen the film and I think most people have learned that by now.

I kind of tuned out on him, once I realized he has no knowledge of the fantasy genre. It's the thing that pisses me off with "geek" reviewers when they something that obviously gives them away that they are only playing geeks (usually by not getting their facts right). In this case, he didn't understand that elves representing the elitist 1% are long established fantasy norms (long before the 1% term was even uttered) in most fantasy settings. And no, the Lord or the Rings movie did not establish a backstory for that, it was just assumed that elves behave that way. Historically, Elves have always been treated as royalty so far as some real life monarchs established familial connections to the fairy world as "proof" of their right to be on the throne.

They are not "Geek" reviewers they're simply film reviewers but go ahead and just ignore what some people are saying about this film.

I only ignore people who obviously don't know what they are talking about. In this case, he obviously didn't pay attention to Lord of the Rings (and his fellow reviewers quickly back down because he's the host even though they know he's wrong. Why bother having a group of reviewers when they are just yes men to the host?). Generally, the geek community loves the movie but still they admit it has its faults.

Sort of. The scene in the convenience store was difficult to swallow. Up to this point, the bad elves (inferni) are nigh invincible. They slaughter every gang member in the bar and face off, point blank, with A SWAT team without a scratch. And yet they hesitate to directly confront Will Smith and his partner, instead swapping useless volleys of automatic gunfire from behind a car, unable to shoot through store shelves made of paper thin sheet metal.
Can't say that I ever felt that our heroes' lives were ever in jeopardy.

Its not like it was established that the elves didn't use guns (in the strip club it was only Leilah that only used hand-to-hand weapons there). In the case of the convenience store, the hail of gunfire was first just to force the group in covered position until they were able to drive the car into the store. The other times was because the convenience store provided too many areas for routes of escape (because of the racks) so trying to chase them down with hand-to-hand weapons would have been futile, not that the guns were that useful either (for much the same reason).
Side story. I've actually been shot at in real life while working at a convenience store (a 7-11). I wasn't killed because of the numerous cover positions in the store (and I wasn't behind the counter at the time).

Completely agree with this. It was really annoying how the three of them, as you said, managed to slice and dice a whole gang carrying machine guns in the strip club using their super speedy abilities, yet when it came to Will Smith and his partner they suddenly lost their acrobatic killer skills?!
The elves were actually the most frustrating characters in the film. What was even the point of the FBI elf? He never served any purpose.
BTW, I did actually like the film, just a few things about it I didn't like...

I was really expecting the FBI elf to turn evil any moment and was somewhat dissapointed when it didn't happen. There still a chance for it to happen in a sequel.

Yeah, it seemed like it was leading up to him wanting the wands to resurrect the Dark Lord - basically being the head bad guy all along. But like you said, maybe in the sequel.
