Discuss Bright

I didn't think Bright was a bad movie. It wasn't awful like I've heard some make it out to be. It didn't amaze me either. I really liked the concept and story. I just kinda had trouble connecting with the characters and execution. However, in a world of sequels, remakes and reboots it was nice to see a "blockbuster film" feature an original idea. I don't necessarily dislike films based around already established content, but moving forward I think we need more original stuff.

I have seen way worse movies make it to the theaters and make a killing. Edgerton was fkn excellent. Damn, that guy turned out to be a fine actor. The plot was a bit weak but the action was on point. All in all I don't feel like I wasted my time watching it.

Bright (2017) - 3 outta 5 stars

It was a good enough thing to watch as a Holiday break movie, entertaining enough.

I don't like elves, or orcs, or faries, or magic, but taking those fantasy elements and setting them in modern day with R rated violence and language was at least something different. And I actually grew to like Jackoby.

The movie is kind of an entertaining mess with a mix of Training Day and The Warriors with a little LotR thrown in. I agree, it wasn't as bad as people are saying. Not great either, but at least it wasn't a sequel, prequel, remake, or soft reboot of something else from the 80s or 90s. I give it credit for it.

Hi wave how you been?

I fell in hearts with Edgerton when I saw The Great Gatsby remake.

I haven't watched Bright yet, came here to see what some opinions were.

Hey! We've missed you! If you like fantasy genre I think you will enjoy it. Its a decent mash up of LOTR fantasy and modern buddy cop flicks. Plot is meh but the over all film is not terrible. Action scenes are done very well.

I first saw Edgerton on an Independent Aussie film called The Hard Word (2002). It's a crime drama starring fellow Aussie Guy Pierce and I quite liked him in it although the role didn't require much depth. But since then I have seen him in a number of films including Gatsby and he really blossomed as actor. Good for him. thumbsup_tone2

You too! hugging I've still been hanging about somewhere on this site...and staying way from crazy wink .

I watched Bright yesterday and personally I loved it. It reminded me of Alien Nation, Training Day, LOTR and The Matrix. First 3 minutes watching I wondered when Joel Edgerton would appear when I realized he was the Orc/ alien. He did a good job because I never would have guessed that was him.

Maybe I will experience that one one day too.

Yes, I hear a lot of Alien Nation and it does ring true to that although I never watched either the film or the show but I know the premise. I won't say I am a fantasy nerd but I do accept it as entertaining lore and do indulge in it but I am far from a fantasy nerd. The same could be said of me and Star Wars. I like the lore but I don't own a single piece of SW memorabilia.

Exactly! I think I made it through the entire film without realizing it was him. grin But makeup withstanding his acting was very good. He talks (or used to) talk with a prominent Aussie accent so to hear him talk in this and have you go "Who is that?" is a sign of doing a great job. That girl Noomi did a good job too. First time I have seen her play the villain and she just seems to have a natural elf look to her face as well so perhaps that helped. grinning

If you like crime dramas its worth a peek. Nothing spectacular but not boring.

I'm glad I ran into you again! heartpulse I'm sure we will run into each other some more since we seem to have similar taste in shows/films.

Ha ha! There is nothing original under the sun but I get the point. At least they took a stab at originality.

I only like some fantasy , so I am not a nerd either and I just never could get into Star Wars shrug_tone1 .

The only reason I realized it was him was because I had read here that he was starring in the movie- so I just figured that had to be him wink .

Agreed.

I had never (to my knowledge) seen her before, but I liked her in this. I hear she is also in What Happened To Monday which I plan on hourglass getting around to watching this weekend.

It's bound to happen! smile

What?! scream You never seen the original The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo? Oh man, you gotta see it. Although Finch's American remake is pretty good too, the original is better. More gritty. She plays the title's namesake.

What?! You never seen the original The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo?

Or Prometheus.

Ha ha, yes. She plays Elizabeth Shaw. I was so disappointed with what they did with her character in Covenant.

I really didn't like either of those films and yea they fucked her over in covenant. Only human survivor of a dramatic intense alien parasite attack... dies unceremoniously in a hibernation pod, Bleh!

Yeah, they both sucked. Prometheus was meh and Covenant was crap.
