Discuss Sweet, Sweet Lonely Girl

I just watched this and enjoyed it, but the ending was pretty confusing! I'm still trying to make sense of it all.

Based on the photo, Beth must have been friends with Aunt Dora long ago, and probably caused her to go mad. Somehow, decades later, Beth is still young (ghost? supernatural powers?), and she sets her sights on Adele.

I'm assuming Beth was the one who locked Adele in her bedroom, as opposed to Dora. And that the mysterious whispers of "I love you, Adele" were to seduce and trick her. I'm not too sure about Dora's ghost, though, and what her intent was.

Skip ahead a few decades, and Adele is now the crazy older sister living upstairs, with her much younger sister, Dorie, as her caretaker.

It makes me wonder if Beth will now seduce her way into Dorie's life, and the cycle will continue. Perhaps she keeps herself young by stealing the youth and vitality of other women.

Any other theories or explanations about the ending?

Another in a seemingly unending series of films that either leave us with no ending or an ending that requires loads of assumptions on the part of the viewer.

I personally thought Beth _was _Aunt Dora and that she continually extended her life by taking someone (could be anyone I suppose) around her. Dorie is now a young woman so we must assume it is many years (at least 18-22 years ) and the spirit that was Dora lived out her renewed youth as Adele. Now old and infirm, Adele calls out to Dorie. Never having seen Adele, or if so many years ago, young Adele will appear as the new girl in Dorie's life; and the switch will be made again.

How long this has been going on? Who knows. And I say anyone could be used for the transfer (as long as they are female) because pretty soon the spirit is gonna run out of blood relatives (Dorie may be the last and her mom is probably long dead).

Yet all of this was undefined. I take it when such things happen in a film it is due to poor writing; not some "I'm gonna make you THINK" clever nonsense.

Other than that, I have "Traces of Love" stuck in my head!!
