Idk about that ending I was totally convinced that this was his hell to spend eternity in that "world", a theory that I came up with very early in the film(when you see enough horror it's easy to guess that the person or people are already dead), but you could also be right. The film really had me thinking that it was his personal hell, if it weren't the case, boy that would have had to be one hell of an event planner. Idk maybe have to look at that specific scene again even though it won't change what is presented, maybe help sort out my perception.

Here's an idea that has just come to mind and maybe what was going on in the film. Who suffers more doing life in a prison, a stone cold killer or a guy who is truly or is totally convinced he is innocent? Can the same be true for hell? Would you suffer more thinking you were put there wrongly or if you knew exactly why you were there? Or maybe he was merely in the first "level" of hell( Dante-esque) and that was merely the intro and he'll only be there for say 1 million years.

That is just one take on it, I have no belief in hell or any BS cartoonish non-existent places we are proposed to go after death, but if hell were to be real it would be a large place and would desperately need employees to torture people and I would like to think I would gain that employment.

He killed himself in the motel room after he had killed the little girl. Everything we saw in the film was his guilt and trauma coming out to get him and he continually ran away right up until the very last moment - he remained in denial of what he had done. Eddy wasn't the devil, he was the angel in all of this trying to get Sam to acknowledge what he had done. And when he Sam was finally killed, Eddy's job was done - which is why he cracks his back (not because he's sprouting wings or anything or growing a spine) - his back all of a sudden seemed to get bigger (Sam was physically bigger). Eddy was basically Sam's subconscious in all of this.

As to why the women was cleaning up the blood at the end? Notice that she couldn't really clean any of it with that sponge. Suggests to me that his soul is going to be tainted a lot longer and that his punishment wasn't really over. Even though all we saw was Eddy's back, his physical actions suggest that he wasn't all to happy with the way everything went down.

Going to give this 4/5 for the effort and also for the length, clocked in at under 1 hour 15 minutes and still managed to remain pretty engaging throughout.

This is pretty much how I seen it, atleast after the first viewing. Really surprised you dont hear more from this movie. Sadly the review section is riddled with people who need everything told to them in dialogue, so yet again, another brilliant thriller slips through unnoticed...for the most part.

Cant find any info on a dvd release either, which is sad. This is a must own for a guy like me.

i'm inclined to think that sam is dead and in hell and his punishment is to feel hunted and helpless like the girl he killed, but who knows? i think the plot developments towards the end were a bit too ambiguous. i would have preferred to see sam's recall gradually come back, as in the film angel heart. a decent effort and not too drawn out, which i appreciated.
