Алберт е отрасъл в изолирана ферма някъде в Алпите. Макар да е преминал 30-те, властната му майка Мариане все още контролира напълно живота му. Без да иска и защото майка му настоява Алберт се мести да живее в близката долина и започва работа в мраморна кариера. Мариане иска да го предпази от бедния и самотен живот в планината и дори е готова да се откаже от връзката помежду им, за го откъсне от традициите във фермата. Като изгонено от територията си животно Алберт продължава тайно да се връща в планината.

Albert grew up on an isolated mountain farm in the middle of nowhere in the Alps. Although he’s already in his 30s, his omnipresent mother Marianne still pulls the strings in his life. Not intentionally and only because of his mother’s pressure, Albert went to live in the nearby valley to make his living in a marble quarry. Marianne wants to protect him from the poor and lonesome life on the mountain and is even willing to denounce their bonds to the tradition of the farm, that has existed over centuries. Like an abandoned animal that keeps coming back to its territory, the introverted farmers son keeps sneaking back to the mountain as often as possible. When his father dies accidently whilst repairing the roof, Marianne fears, that Albert will take over the role of his father and return to the farm. Instead, she decides to hide the death from Albert and the outside world—and buries his corpse on the mountain.

Albert a grandi dans une ferme dans le sud des Alpes tyroliennes. Il est le fils unique de Marianne et Rudl, un couple de paysans désormais âgés. Albert a dépassé 30 ans mais l'influence de sa mère dans sa vie est encore très forte. C'est elle qui l'a convaincu de travailler dans la carrière de marbre située dans la vallée. Rudl décède brutalement et Marianne, craignant que son fils ne puisse quitter son travail en aval pour prendre la place de son père à la ferme, décide de ne rien dire et enterre secrètement le corps dans la montagne.

Albert ist das einzige, überlebende Kind der Eggerhofbauern, einer Familie, deren Hof nur über eine kleine Materialseilbahn zu erreichen ist. Sie verheimlicht ihrem Sohn den Unfalltod des Vaters und sucht ihm eine Stelle im Marmorsteinbruch. Sie will nicht, dass ihr Sohn das einfache Leben als Bergbauer führen muss. Als sich Albert in Paola, die ungarische Kantinenhilfe verliebt, und hinter das Geheimnis der Mutter kommt, gerät sein Leben völlig aus den Fugen. Doch Albert fällt eine ungewöhnliche Entscheidung...

Albert jest trzydziestoletnim odludkiem, który dorastał w odciętej od świata alpejskiej osadzie. Za namową apodyktycznej matki, Marianne, wyprowadził się z ukochanej farmy do pobliskiej doliny, gdzie podjął pracę w kamieniołomach. Pewnego dnia jego ojciec traci życie podczas naprawy dachu, matka Alberta stara się ukryć ten fakt przed synem. Nie chce bowiem, by ta wiadomość zachęciła go do powrotu na farmę, na której w jej odczuciu nie mogłoby go już spotkać nic ciekawego.

Albert (Andreas Lust) cresceu isolado em uma fazendo nas montanhas dos Alpes. Mesmo com 30 anos, sua mãe ainda controla as rédeas da sua vida. Por pressão dela, ele deixa a fazenda e passa a morar em um vale próximo e a trabalhar em uma mina de mármore. O desejo de Marianne (Ingrid Burkhard) é proteger o filho de levar uma vida solitária e pobre nas montanhas, estando disposta a romper com as tradições da fazenda. Quando o pai de Alvbert morre acidentalmente, Marianne teme que o filho passe a assumir o pai dele na fazenda. Ao invés de avisá-lo, ela enterra o corpo nas montanhas e decide esconder a verdade de Albert.
