Sommer ’04 is a character study of a family on vacation. German director Stefan Krohmer examines the emotional abyss and problems behind the seemingly nice facade of an intact family as they experience guilt, love and jealousy.

Un été à la mer. Miriam est une femme de 40 ans en vacances avec son mari, leur fils et une amie de ce dernier, Livia. L'adolescente de 12 ans fait la connaissance de Bill un quadragénaire qui semble attiré par la jeune fille. Inquiète, Miriam essaie d'empêcher une relation naissante entre les deux mais tombe elle-même amoureuse Bill.

Sommer 2004. Die 40-jährige Miriam Franz verbringt zusammen mit ihrem Lebensgefährten André (42), Sohn Niels (16) und dessen 12-jähriger Freundin Livia die Ferien in Norddeutschland. Livia macht beim Segeln die Bekanntschaft von Bill (38) und Miriam beobachtet besorgt, dass sich zwischen den beiden ein Liebesverhältnis anzubahnen scheint.

A los cuarenta años, Miriam es muy guapa y tiene una confianza y una seguridad tan amplia como el mar que linda su casa de verano. No hay ningún tabú en la vida que comparte con André, su novio, y su hijo de 15 años, Nils. Todo es comprensión y tolerancia. Cuando Nils invita a su novia de doce años, Livia, a pasar las vacaciones con ellos, no hay ningún problema.
