Bad Bette is always fun and here she's at her worst. There is one scene on the stairs with Herbert Marshall - which I shall not spoil for those who haven't seen it - which is surely among the most chilling in 1940s cinema. She is a wicked joy throughout, and a tremendous line-up of co-stars helps makes this a treat, A great film, adapted by Lillian Hellman from her own play.

I love Bette Davis. But not a big fan of any of her films after 1960 though.

My favorite (generally, depending on my mood) is Now, Voyager.

" Oh, Jerry, don't let's ask for the moon. We have the stars."

But I also love her 'bad girl' roles.
