Die Kinderbuchautorin Dorothy Gale verdient ihren Lebensunterhalt mit der Fortsetzung der Oz-Buchreihe ihres Großvaters. Als ein neuer Agent die Szene betritt, zieht Dorothy nach New York City. Inmitten eines großen Geschäfts mit ihren Büchern entdeckt Dorothy, dass ihre Bücher nicht auf ihrer Fantasie beruhen, sondern auf verdrängten Erinnerungen. Während Dorothy mit der Enthüllung kämpft, ist sie gezwungen, sich der bösen Hexe des Westens zu stellen, die auf den Big Apple herabgestiegen ist und entschlossen ist, eine alte Rechnung zu begleichen.

Children's author Dorothy Gale makes a decent living continuing her grandfather's series of Oz books. When a new agent enters the scene, Dorothy moves to New York city. In the midst of a major business deal for her books, Dorothy discovers that her books are not based on her imagination, but on repressed memories. While Dorothy struggles with the revelation, she is forced to confront The Wicked Witch of the West, who has descended upon the Big Apple, determined to settle an old score.

Dorothy Gale è un'autrice di libri per bambini, basate su storie che lei ha vissuto. La sua vita viene sconvolta quando Billy, rappresentante editoriale, chiama Dorothy a vivere a New York e le propone di pubblicarle i libri da lei scritti. In breve Dorothy scopre che i suoi libri non sono solamente fantasia, ma una storia da lei personalmente vissuta. Nel corso del film, con l'aiuto di alcuni suoi amici, cercherà di fermare la cattiva strega del Ovest.
