In the Californian part of the Sonoran desert, in the close vicinity of military bases, there is a “wild” town called Slab City inhabited by the refugees from the American Dream. Of different age, they brought with them various stories, but all chose freedom, even for the price of the most basic comforts. The only place equipped with electricity is a makeshift Internet café run by Rob which serves “the best coffee in the neighbourhood”.

Slab City es una comunidad de ocupas anarquistas ubicada en el desierto de Sonora, al sur de California. Sus habitantes viven en condiciones precarias, sin acceso a servicios eléctricos, agua corriente o sistema de alcantarillado. Slab City, también conocida como "The Last Free Place in America" (El último lugar libre en Estados Unidos), se encuentra en un área desértica donde se solían ubicar los cimientos de una antigua base militar. Es un lugar que atrae a personas que buscan una forma de vida alternativa y rechazan la estructura convencional de la sociedad.
