Gombessa Expedition 3

Protected by an international treaty Antarctica has been spared the effects of hunting and fishing. But signs in ice’s cyclical patterns and its biodiversity have become worrying. Connected to the planet’s global ecosystem via atmospheric circulation and ocean currents, this white haven is suffering the effects of human activities. To document and explain what is unfolding in Antarctica, photographer, diver, and marine biologist Laurent Ballesta and photographer of extreme environments Vincent Munier will be blending their artistic perspectives of a rapidly changing continent. Laurent will tackle technical and human prowess below the ice to bear witness to its remarkable underwater life. His photographs will advance knowledge on Antarctica’s unique and little-known biodiversity. On land, his eye riveted to the lens of his camera, Vincent captures snapshots of life in an Emperor Penguin colony.

Antarktida, chráněná mezinárodní smlouvou byla ušetřena účinků lovu a rybolovu. Ale známky v cyklických vzorcích ledu a jeho biologické rozmanitosti se staly znepokojujícími. Tento bílý ráj, spojený s globálním ekosystémem planety prostřednictvím atmosférické cirkulace a oceánských proudů, trpí následky lidských činností. Aby zdokumentovali a vysvětlili, co se odehrává v Antarktidě, fotograf, potápěč a mořský biolog Laurent Ballesta a fotograf extrémních prostředí Vincent Munier spojí své umělecké pohledy na rychle se měnící kontinent. Laurent se pod ledem vypořádá s technickou a lidskou zdatností, aby vydal svědectví o jeho pozoruhodném podmořském životě. Jeho fotografie rozšíří znalosti o jedinečné a málo známé biologické rozmanitosti Antarktidy. Natuurfotografen Vincent Munier en Laurent Ballesta bezochten een onderzoeksstation van het Franse Pool instituut met het 'Antarctica!'-project van Wild-Touch Expeditions. Het doel van de missie was om de veranderingen op Antarctica als gevolg van de klimaatverandering te documenteren en het belang van de bescherming van het Antarctische ecosysteem te tonen.

Expédition « Gombessa 3 »

En 2015, Laurent Ballesta et son équipe se sont rendus en Antarctique pour une mission qui associe exploration, photographie et plongée profonde. L'Antarctique, ce continent gelé d'environ 13 millions de kilomètres carrés. Le QG de l’expédition « Gombessa 3 » a été installé sur la base scientifique française Dumont d’Urville en Terre Adélie. Pour la première fois, une équipe de plongeurs professionnels a pu plonger sous la banquise de cette région du monde. Toutes inédites, ces plongées ont chacune été un exploit d’un point de vue à la fois humain et technique. La mission a permis de recueillir les toutes premières images naturalistes des écosystèmes sous-marins des eaux profondes de l’Antarctique.Vincent Munier, spécialiste de la photographie animalière, a pu capturer des instantanés de vie d'une colonie de manchots empereurs.

75 jours d’expédition. Record de temps et de profondeur en plongée polaire (5 heures d’immersion dans une eau à -1,8 degrés).

Die Naturfotografen Vincent Munier und Laurent Ballesta besuchten mit dem „Antarctica!“-Projekt von Wild-Touch Expeditions eine Forschungsstation, die vom Französischen Polarinstitut betrieben wird. Ziel der Mission war es, die Veränderungen in der Antarktis zu dokumentieren, die durch den Klimawandel hervorgerufen wurden, und zu zeigen, wie wichtig es ist, das Ökosystem der Antarktis zu schützen.
