Due to a domestic accident that forces the elderly father to bed, the woman flees to Turin to take her parents in the design of a villa on a lake for a young couple. At work he meets architect Massimo, his peer-minded career and engaged in an open relationship with independent Sandra. Francesca est la fille unique de Manfredi, architecte réputé de Turin, à qui elle rend rarement visite de Paris, où elle vit avec son mari. Cloué au lit à cause d’un accident, Manfredi demande à Francesca de le remplacer sur un projet de villa au bord d’un lac, pour lequel elle se retrouve à collaborer avec le “dauphin” de son père, le fascinant Massimo, sur la cinquantaine. Alors que leurs rapports sont dans un premier temps conflictuels, naîtra entre les deux personnages une complicité professionnelle et des sentiments qui les conduiront, peut-être pour la première fois de leur vie à découvrir leurs propres natures et à affronter leurs destins.

Francesca (Emmanuelle Devos), cinquant'anni, è l'unica figlia di Manfredi (Giulio Brogi), un famoso architetto che da quando è vedovo abita a Torino e che lei va a trovare solo in rare occasioni. Francesca da molti anni vive a Parigi con la figlia ormai adolescente e con il marito Benoît (Hippolyte Girardot), un finanziere sulla sessantina dal carattere introverso ma molto protettivo e paterno con lei. Dopo essere stato vittima di un infortunio domestico, Manfredi, le chiederà di fare le sue veci nel progetto di una villa. Francesca si ritroverà così a collaborare con Massimo (Fabrizio Gifuni), un uomo sulla cinquantina che ha basato tutta la sua vita sulla sua carriera di architetto. Dopo un primo approccio difficile, tra Massimo e Francesca piano piano nasce una grande sintonia professionale e un sentimento che li porterà a confrontarsi veramente con se stessi e i loro più autentici destini.
