Afro-Brazilian poet and politician, the legendary Carlos Marighella. Driven to fight against the erosion of civil and human rights following the CIA-backed military coup of 1964 and the brutal, racist right-wing dictatorship that followed, the revolutionary leaves behind his wife and son to take up arms, becoming a notorious enemy to the power structure.

“Marighella” is een biografische film over Carlos Marighella, een marxistische Braziliaanse schrijver, politicus en guerrillastrijder die leefde in de 20e eeuw. Marighella groeit op in een arbeidersgezin. Als volwassene wordt hij regelmatig gearresteerd omwille van zijn kritiek.

Em 1969, Carlos Marighella foi um homem que não teve tempo pra ter medo. De um lado, uma violenta ditadura militar. Do outro, uma esquerda intimidada. Cercado por guerrilheiros 30 anos mais novos e dispostos a reagir, o líder revolucionário escolheu a ação.

Os últimos cinco anos de Carlos Marighella, ex-deputado, poeta e guerrilheiro brasileiro, que durante a ditadura militar liderou um dos maiores movimentos de resistência ao governo da época.
