Discuss Limitless

"Limitless" (2011) is a movie I really liked. Anyone know when there might be a Sequel? It received a rating of 7.4 on IMDB; the budget was 27 million with a gross of 79 million only four months after its release. Seems like a no brainer.

There is a tv series of it. Bradley Cooper's character pops up occasionally.

Heard their going to make a prequel movie exclusively about his life as a loser...

Haha... just kidding ;)

I actually thought your comment about the prequel was real till I read you were joking! At the same time; I was thinking anyone before taking NZT-48 would be a loser in comparison. Also I don't know there was a series of it on TV. I guess I could buy season one on DVD and check it out, but I don't know if it will be the same. At the end of the movie Eddi Morra (Bradley Cooper's character) was a senator, and who knows...maybe he was making his way to be a president. From what I've read; the TV series focuses on crime fighting. I could see using that angle for TV (like all the CSI shows out there,) but a movie I'm sure would take a totally different direction.

It's interesting to learn the reason why there probably won't be a 2nd season. It's not because the series is bad; it fully has to do with the fact that..."Limitless" tackles a controversial drug called NZT, which is believed to be the reason why Amazon and Netflix passed on the opportunity to stream the drama comedy television series to their services."

By the way, I'm sure the word "comedy" was a mistake in that article. Something to think about...the move rated 7.4; while the series rated 7.8 on IMDB.

I really wouldn't. Not that it's terrible. It's ok. But it's really not worth spending all that money on a whole season. It is very episodic and repetitive. Wait for it to come on Netflix or Amazon.

Films and TV shows are rated very, very differently on IMDB. I don't know why. Generally, with films you should be dubious of anything rated under 6. With TV Shows it tends to be anything under 8. So 7.4 for the Limitless film is pretty good. 7.8 for the show is not so great.

It wouldn't bother me too much to spend about $17 for the DVDs (on Amazon) to get the first season. I don't have Netflix or Amazon (streaming or what ever it is.) About it being episodic and repetitive; I know what you mean...in that case it sounds like it would be a waste of time. That's one of the reasons why I prefer movie versions. Jokingly I could say the same thing about Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit...even though those are movies!

That I didn't know about the TV rating on IMDB. I pretty much knew about that for movie ratings; but not when it comes to TV ratings. In fact over the years; this is one of the very first time I even paid attention to a TV rating.

Thanks

Without any doubt Limitless was the right story, acting, it had that transformation moments, filmed really well. They should only make a sequel if the best actors could come in and the script was pretty radical.

I think the difference reflects how people watch. A movie is a one-time thing, you take a chance watching a movie, and you either like it or don't; with a TV show, you either follow it or don't and if you don't follow it, you are less inclined to rate it. If you like it and follow follow it, you're more inclined to rate it, and more highly.

My ratings reflect this. Most shows I've bothered to rate are shows I liked and followed. Meanwhile, I've sat through movies I didn't like (like this one), and rated quite low.

There may be other explanations of the difference I'd be happy to entertain but, pending better explanations, this us how I'm tentatively figuring it.

Yeah, I'd say that's spot on. That's what I do. There are not many tv shows I rate and if I just watch an episode or two of something and I didn't like it I don't think it's fair to rate it based on what I saw.

Since I made that post though I would say ratings trends have changed somewhat. TV shows seem to be rated lower now. They still get higher ratings than films but many good shows get rated in the 7s now. So I'd guess you're looking at about 7.4 or above for it to worth giving it a shot. Roughly. People seem to be a bit harsher these days.

What I can't believe is it's been five years since these posts!

Jesus, you're right. I was pretty new to the site back then too so I've been using this sight for five years now. That really has gone fast.
