Nelehký je život fenky Lajky na periférii ruského velkoměsta. Po svém odchytu je násilně přeškolena na průkopnici kosmonautiky. Záhy po startu Lajku do vesmíru následuje množství dalších zvířat překotně vypouštěných z Hustonu a Bajkonuru. Zvířata bloudí vesmírem až nakonec za pomoci černé díry šťastně obydlí vzdálenou planetu. Po nedlouhé době jejich harmonického nikým nerušeného soužití s místními živočichy k nim však doputuje i první člověk a harmonický i ten holý život zvířat je rázem ohrožen.

Life is not easy for Laika, a dog on the outskirts of a big Russian city. She is caught and forcibly retrained to become a pioneer in astronautics. Soon after her lift-off into space, a number of animals follow that are hurriedly launched from Houston and Baikonur. The animals travel astray, but finally manage, with the help of a black hole, to colonize a faraway planet. After a short period of harmonious, undisturbed co-existence with indigenous life forms, however, first human cosmonaut run ashore on their planet, and their harmonious life, indeed their very survival, are suddenly in jeopardy.

A la périphérie d’une ville russe, la vie de la chienne Laïka n’est pas aisée. Capturée et formée en pionnière de l’astronautique, elle se retrouve dans l’espace, suivi par de nombreux animaux lancés de Baïkonour et de Houston. Ils errent dans l’espace jusqu’à ce qu’ils trouvent une planète qu’ils peuplent avec entrain. L’image de la belle vie est compromise par l’apparition du premier homme.
