Discuss Alien Predators

OK, where to begin: Well, I saw the trailer for this advertised on a Friday night when I was 9, and it freaked me out. This is back when exploitation/low budget movies like this played in theaters on 42nd Street.

Then, one year or two later, I saw this when it was on USA's Saturday Nightmares that used to air at 8 P.M. Saturday nights. I remember I was creeped out by a few scenes. That's probably because I was too young to understand how silly this movie was. Like, when the two NASA fellas were investigating the dead body off the lieutenant. The look on the man's face was very grotesque. Then the scene where the girl was attacked by that person in the semi-transparant mask looked somewhat scary. But then that big truck crushed him into a wall by driving into him at the same time as attempting to take out the girl. (that truck made me think of the Creeper's truck in "Jeepers Creepers") One scene that creeped me out was when the three teenagers were in the diner, and when the waitress came to their table to give them their food, and her red hair was sticking out all over the place and her nose was bleeding. At a young age that kind of freaked me out. Let's also not forget the ending when the gas station attendant's head ripped open and the creature jumped out at the windsheild. One swipe of the windsheild wipers, WHOOSH!, it's gone! Then, as they all drive away, Dennis Christopher's nose bleeds, we hear the creatures chirping, and it looks like the camera runs out of film. THE END! I guess this means the world came to an end or something. LOL!

About a decade and a half ago, I saw this at a video store and got all nostolgic. I couldn't resist. I had to rent it, for old time's sake. It wasn't as scary or realistic as I remembered it as a naive, innocent child. But, the waitress and the masked man still creeped me out. Then I laughed. It was so bad, so campy, I felt like Beavis and Butt-head "reviewing" a bad music video. (huh-huh, heh-heh, this sucks, huh huh huh)

But, it was still fun to pretend USA's Saturday Nightmares was "back from the dead" I could only imagine that the director Deran Serafian, the director, probably filmed this under the title "The Falling", which would've been a better title. Those who've seen this would probably know what I'm talking about. If it was remade today, under the title "The Falling", with a bigger budget, and not marketed with the words "Alien" or "Predators" in the title, it would probably be a better movie. Maybe Anchor Bay will re-release this as "The Falling" in the near future on Blu-Ray.

But, it's still a campy fun film to watch if you don't take it seriously and drink an ale while watching.
