Mixed feelings about this one. Cast is excellent, despite Audie doing the ACTING. And Troy... er... Doug McClure as the horny teenager is just too much. When the virgin cowboy shouts "We did it! We beat them off!" I spilled my La Croix.
Didn't like how they treated native Americans. I understood it was from a time but still is it really that bad to be half native American? And Audrey was just too sophisticated for the part. Then she makes out with her much older adopted brother. With McClure right their grinning like a cat.
The stunt work is amazing. John Saxon playing another "Indian" does this great stunt switching between three horses bareback while going full speed was something to behold. Those old westerns made the stunt doubles look just like the actors.
Lancaster does his acrobatic, strong man bit. He lifts a fake piano with his neck.
Hair:
The most kick ass is Lilian Gish. She aced every closeup. And she had the most shocking moment of violence that surprised me.
Overall, beautiful and unintended creepy film.
