In August, 1918, Matsuura Ito lives in a coastal village of Toyama with her husband and three children. During the summer, there wasn't much fish to catch, so her husband has been far away from home to catch fish. To support herself and her children, Ito carries goods from ships like the other women in the village. Meanwhile, the residents encounter rising prices for rice. The women are unable to feed their family due to the high prices of rice. The women ask a nearby rice store to sell rice at lower prices, but it fails. The price of rice continues to rise daily. Due to an incident, Ito and the other village women step up to the plate.

En août 1918, Matsuura Ito vit dans un village côtier de Toyama avec son mari, pêcheur et ses trois enfants. Pendant l'été, la pêche n'est pas bonne. Pour subvenir à ses besoins et à ceux de ses enfants, Ito transporte des marchandises depuis des navires comme les autres femmes du village. Pendant ce temps, les habitants sont confrontés à la hausse du prix du riz. Les femmes sont incapables de nourrir leur famille en raison du prix élevé du riz. Les femmes demandent à un magasin de riz voisin de le vendre moins cher, mais cela échoue. Le prix du riz continue d'augmenter chaque jour. En raison d'un incident, Ito et les autres femmes du village interviennent...

1918년 8월, 마츠우라 이토는 남편과 세 자녀와 함께 도야마 해안 마을에 살고 있다. 여름에는 잡을 물고기가 많지 않아 남편은 멀리 떨어진 바다로 고기를 잡으러 나간다. 이토는 마을 여자들과 배에서 물건을 나르며 가족을 먹여살리는데 갑자기 쌀값이 폭등하고 만다. 마을 여자들은 쌀을 더 싸게 팔라고 요청하지만...
