Discuss Gone with the Wind

First of all, as Union troops had picked the house clean of everything/anything of value, I don't understand why the drapes were left hanging on the window.

Also, when Scarlett yanks the drapes down, you can clearly see, when she's holding them up, that there's noticeable sun-fading along all the protruding folds of the fabric. Yet when the drapes are refashioned into a stunning gown and hat ensemble, there's no sun-fading anywhere to be seen.

Absolutely gorgeous (and quite famous) getup! Costume designer Walter Plunkett certainly did an amazing job on Scarlett's various outfits.

Why would the Yankees steal the draperies? They're big, heavy and have no real value compared to something like silverwear or jewelry.

I remember some character at Tara mentioning the Union troops took even the carpets. So seems like the luxurious velvet curtains would be likewise viewed as worth taking.
