De 16-jarige Bella en Vipulan maken deel uit van een generatie die ervan overtuigd is dat haar toekomst in gevaar is. Tussen de klimaatverandering en de zesde massale uitsterving van wilde dieren zou hun wereld over vijftig jaar wel eens onbewoonbaar kunnen zijn. Ze hebben keer op keer alarm geslagen, maar er is eigenlijk niets veranderd. Daarom hebben ze besloten de wortel van het probleem aan te pakken: onze relatie met de levende wereld. Tijdens een buitengewone reis komen ze tot het besef hoe diep mensen verbonden zijn met alle andere levende soorten. En dat door hen te redden… we ook onszelf redden. De mens dacht dat hij afstand kon nemen van de natuur, maar de mens is een essentieel onderdeel van de natuur. Want de mens is tenslotte een dier.
