Discuss Weird: The Al Yankovic Story

Yeah, there were a few funny moments in it; but overall, it is unfunny, ridiculous garbage.

Make a real documentary full of TRUE events -- and that will be great... unlike this travesty.

I have a Roku TV & watch a lot of the streaming channels & every time I see the commercial for this (which they show at least 4 times an hour) I wonder about the casting of Radcliffe. He's a midget (5' 5") compared to Yankovic (6') & the clown wig is beyond ridiculous. I have no wish to see this.

You caught that: apparently it’s part of the joke. According to the glowing review on Roger Ebert’s site, this movie completely reverses the truth about Weird Al, thus turning it into an anti-biographical story, the ultimate parody of rockstar biopics.

The real Al had a very close relationship with his supportive parents. Here they’re shown as abusive tyrants (Purple Rain anyone?). It also shows him as a drug-fueled, booze-swilling addict, whereas in real life Al never touched the stuff. The list goes on.

The icing on the cake, I’m guessing, is having tall Al played by a very short actor.

I haven’t seen this but it’s high on my list now. I love parodies/mockumentaries/spoofs that are so subtle that half the audience doesn’t realize they’ve been had.

I like some 'parodies', Hot Shots, Robin Hood: Men in Tights but just from the annoying commercials, you couldn't pay me enough to watch it. Also, in the commercials, he supposedly had a 'thing' with Madonna?

I'm sure the Madonna 'affair' is part of the ridiculous rockstar parody. What 80s-90s rockstar didn't have a thing with Madonna? (Answer: Weird Al.)

Also he never had 6-pack abs either, although apparently he does in the movie 😂

Any way you look at it, this movie is sweeping the ratings on Rottentomatoes (83% from critics, 81% from fans) so it's clearly not horrible. I'm a big fan of rockstar parodies because I think most rock biopics take themselves way too seriously, which this certainly doesn't.
