It looks like people jumped to conclusion (again) last year after the release of Cimino: The Deer Hunter, Heaven's Gate, and the Price of a Vision. Beside the lack of evidence, this was someone who was extremely private. Gossiping and theorizing on Cimino's gender identity feels wrong on so many levels.
