Should Mark be forgiven for racist attacks on Asian-Americans during his teens? People can change and they can learn from past mistakes. I don't buy the "Once a racist, always one" bullshit. I think you can enjoy movies but you don't have to like the person if they are a total asshole. Just my opinion

As long as they have freely admitted & learned from their mistakes. Teenagers do not have fully formed brains, so are easily led into things through their peers (family surroundings also play a huge part). Although I am speaking in general, not to the things Wahlberg did (I haven't read everything but what I have read was horrendous).

Lol. That struck me funny. Not all white guys from Boston are racist. I don't condone violent attacks on anyone regardless of race, color, etc but sometimes when I see a group of black men geared up like gangsters..well you know.

It's an old story. I don't even know what he said. Or what he did about it. Of course before social media it wouldn't even be a story. But you did have me looking up Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch videos from the 90s. MW might be just as embarrassed at those. Whatever he did years ago is in the past as long as he is not acting like that now in the present. People learn and grow up hopefully. MW did too. Because he is in the public eye he gets more attention. Seriously everyone say crap about other types of people. It's just human nature.

They are pretty bad. Here's a link to Wiki about his assaults. I don't remember the early ones (wasn't a fan of his) but I do remember reading about his asking for a 'pardon' of his convictions.

Yikes I thought he just said some bad stuff. Didn't remember or pay attention to all that.

From what I recall Mark was around 14 and joined a gang. He claimed he was on drugs. He allegedly chased some black kids yelling kill the niggers. The attacks on Asian-Americans were vicious. I think one guy was blinded. My point was people can and do change. It's just a matter of being able to seperate Mark the actor from Mark the racist.

Well it was 30+ years ago and no violent attacks since then. Racist is one thing violent crime is another. On another subject the Wahlbergs started this chain of burger joints called Wahlburgers. One opened up not too far from me several months ago. Went their once. Nothing special.

Not very well, because Wahlberg wasn't responsible for the guy losing his eye.
" Wahlberg believed he had left the second victim (named Johnny Trinh) permanently blind in one eye, though Trinh stated that he had lost his eye years prior in the Vietnam War"

Trinh probably did lose the eye in the Vietnam conflict but who's to say that wasn't just to cover his bases? I have no doubt that Mark was an asshole when he was younger. He's probably learned from his mistakes and become a much different person these days. While I have enjoyed watching some of his movies imho he still comes across as a douchebag. Having grown up in Boston there are still some lingering tensions in certain areas. I think you can still enjoy Mark W's movies and still not a be a fan of Mark the person if that makes sense at all.

He grew up in a bad neighborhood and got involved in a gang, but that incident is the only one on his record. He seerms to have learned his lesson from that experience and today he is much older and more mature and has beco e s productive member of society and had a successful movie, modeling and acting career.
If 30+ years of being a productive, law abiding member of society isn't enough to earn a pardon of one criminal offense in his teens, I don't know what is.

Yeah. He's from Dorchester. I agree that people can change and like I said in a previous post he learned from mistakes made in his youth. Btw Dorchester does have a bad reputation as does Mattapan and Roxbury but it is still not an excuse.

auto, read the article in the link. He had two 'incidents' in the summer of 1986, two 'incidents' in April 1988, & fractured the jaw of a neighbor in an 'unprovoked attack' in 1992.
