Hi all,
just a question regarding the new image guideline.
I totally agree that, if there is a cinematic poster, a DVD cover is unnecessary. But what if there is only a Coverart/Fanart (edited DVD cover with remove logos, ...)?
My preference is: Cinema poster > DVD cover (because Blu-ray has a very deviant AR) > other language cinema poster > edited posters
I like to keep it original/official. Is there a problem if we have 2 versions: Original DVD cover + "clean" cover (ONLY if there is no cinema poster available)? (This also means: Original DVD covers MAY have DVD, "Widescreen", and so on logos present)

For mainstream movies the most popular posters are usually a cleaned-up version of a cinema poster, the cinema poster itself or the poster used by iTunes. In that context DVD-covers with logos are quite bad.
Like it says in the rules, we always prefer the cleaned-up DVD-covers over the ones with logos so I'm not sure what is unclear there. But just in case, could you give an example of what you consider an "edited DVD cover with remove logos"?
Also, depending on how our users interpret the rules, there is always a chance there will be some small changes to the rules later on. Personally I think the minimum size for profile pictures should remain at 300x450 or we will soon start getting bad upsized pictures. For many older actors it can be quite a task to find HQ images.

Example: My DVD cover: http://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/cTwiaRSqmvxEKfH9bnkLIxXxlAu.jpg (higher resolution, sharp clear image, as it has been downscaled) A clean version: http://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/by1LKEmQYj5t22IhI2K3cvzGBff.jpg (lower resolution, a little bit more blurry)
A bit more extreme: My DVD cover: http://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/xPaXYHE8G8o3gy588mveeWSxNMQ.jpg (original, like in stores, with a set of logos) A clean version: http://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/bT2DeaUpfTWw5BHGA7rOyYjnJRf.jpg (no logos)
Are both versions "allowed" or will my version be considered dupe and therefore deleted?
Same goes for cinema posters: Will original ones (with typical company and actor credits) be deleted, when there is a clean version? Original: http://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/fErk6NwR5giMw08miUmh32OYvjt.jpg Clean: http://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/j4yYyPdVVSUqCKaKofJTtZXcM6e.jpg

Hi,
If I speak for myself non of your uploads would get deleted. The most of them are valid entries. If somebody is uploading your version in a better aspect ratio (same or higher resolution) then it might get deleted, I know that you try to keep it as original as possible. The most user prefer cleaned version, so do I. I am OK with the logos, but - have to be honest - not a big fan of this FSK logo. That is just a ugly piece of typical German regulation that should be on the back cover. (personal opinion ;-) )
Example 1: Both valid entries.I think they can stay. To make it more complicated I added another cover and a cleaned up version.
Example 2: I think that the version with all the logos is not nice, too crowded. That is my opinion and maybe somebody else is seeing it differently so I would let both stay.
Example 3: I cleaned up your official cinematic poster to give a clean alternative to it. Cinematic is fine anyway. I guess I would delete mine as soon the official cover is getting released. Or maybe there will be never a nice cover, so we could let it stay. Will see.
We are not deleting randomly user uploads, even if a upload is getting reported we checking twice if it is necessary to delete it. If a user doesn't like a cover or poster he has the opportunity to vote it down.
@ lineker: please correct me if I am wrong

Thanks for the examples!
More or less the same opinions, I think.
Example 1: I deleted the other one, http://image.tmdb.org/t/p/original/by1LKEmQYj5t22IhI2K3cvzGBff.jpg, since I was 99 percent sure it was ever so slightly distorted. If there had been some more posters, I probably would have deleted your image as well, based on my interpretation that the FSK logo counts as a DVD logo somehow, but for me it's always a matter of what we have already.
Example 2: Same reasoning as in example 1 for me.
Example 3: We always want the best possible quality original theatrical posters. In general we care more about original theatrical posters than original DVD or VHS-covers. The fact that users vote for the clean versions is no problem. And since we keep all slightly different variations of a poster, sometimes the English language section can be quite crowded for popular titles!

Thanks for clarification!
A theatrical poster dupes a DVD cover. An original DVD cover can stay next to the cleaned up version of it.
That is perfectly fine for me and I will keep on uploading DVD covers (of course only if there is no cinema poster available!).
This was also the agreement, that I had with Mec!as some time ago and I only wanted to make sure that this still counts (with the new guidelines).

Just one extra note about how I think about this. If there are, say, six good posters (no matter what kind) added to a film for a certain language and someone adds a DVD cover with logos of any kind, chances are that the DVD cover will get deleted simply because it isn't needed. That's what I mean. Thanks.

Really? So would something like this English image poster I just uploaded here get deleted eventually (if a mod gets to it in the future)? I want to know so that I'll stop doing this if that's the case.

@tmdb24407783 This thread is almost five years old. The current guidelines are in the Bible: https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/image/59f7582c9251416e7100005f
