The Movie Database Support

So I guess it has been decided that a TMDB Poster is a neutered one?
No Actors
No Tagline
No Copyright info (even though larger images means it is now readable).
I know my opinion counts for zip and have been refraining from public posts...
Does that not mean they are FanArt like banners/clearart/discs? And not Movie Posters?

Sure hope Pete takes this into account since most popular can be overruled by preference of a few and I will be d/ling by hand.

Also do u realize HTML Help cannot be closed in Firefox?

Hi DaMan,

Yes, we introduced this back in May. There was a post about some of the reasons why that you can read here.

Does that not mean they are FanArt like banners/clearart/discs? And not Movie Posters?

I don't know, what is really "fan art" these days? iTunes uses this style as their default, as do many others now days.

Also do u realize HTML Help cannot be closed in Firefox?

What page are you referring to exactly?

Thanks TB
Been avoiding the forums for some time.
Avoid apple like the plague, most of my sampling seemed to have Actors.
Always thought FanArt definition was simple.
Movie Poster: Designed and approved by the Studio.
FanArt: Designed by a fan.

your site, your choice.
I understand the "gaming" issue, However using the taste of a few mods, with a few guidelines is still gamed?

Hopefully Pete either ignores it or allows user to.

Thanks again TB!

When typing right here in forums above box is "(formatting help)" could find no way to close it

Heh, re: fan art, I was being mostly facetious. In this case, when discussing "neutered" images, whether it's "fan art" or "official", it's hard to have much separation as the world's largest movie services use this format.

Our rules for choosing a primary do take this "neutered" style into account. The rules our moderators have to follow are:

  • Only set a primary if it's a problem item, defaulting to the rating is still perfectly fine and in most cases preferred
  • Prefer "naked" posters over theatrical (with all of the cast and crew, release information, etc…)
  • A perfect 1:1.5 aspect ratio
  • The highest resolution that meets the above criteria
  • If there are multiple versions that meet the criteria above, well, personal opinion is all that we can go by at this point
  • If an image is already set as a primary, think about it before you change it. But it's not a big deal if you're just replacing a lower quality/lower resolution with something better

There is certainly an element of personal preference but it's more about pragmatically choosing the best image that meets our desired criteria.

Re: forum help, got it! Ya, that link has always been kinda broken. One of the thousand things to fix ;)

thanks
