The Movie Database Support

While I like tmdb, it irks me that I can't view old discussions from IMDB. But then I found out about MovieChat.org. They have a complete archive of old IMDB posts (they basically cloned the site).

It looks promising, but the archive is far from complete, almost every foreign film I've searched for is missing the posts from IMDb.

Why would you want to archive IMDB message boards? Even IMDB didn't archive it's own message boards.

thinking Good point, good point.

Are they even allowed to do that? I thought archiving old IMDb posts was only supposed to be for personal use?

To be honest, I like the idea of starting with a clean slate over here at TMDb anyway. There were a lot of great, informative posts on IMDb, but there was also a lot of spam, redundancy and trolling. I don't see the point in saving all of that.

Yeah, I'm also curious about the legality of doing that.

I agree that starting with a clean slate is probably the way to go, besides, I don't really think TMDb and the site mentioned in this thread are comparable/serve the same purpose. That being said, IMDB's message boards has a lot of great discussions on older, lesser-known foreign movies dating back many years, with no spam/trolling, and I love reading them after watching a movie, so I do see the point in having them available, just not here.

No. Just no. They have not cloned the entire site. A very quick query will provide the Non-Alternate Fact for you. Maybe they cherry picked the most active sites? Don't know. We shouldn't care. IMDB offlined, purged, or deleted history of the most heavily trafficked sites any way.

To improve the usefulness and desireability of this site one thing and one thing alone has to happen Contribute to the Movie-TV-People boards by starting discussions. Find your favorite topic (besides how fantastic the emoji's are zipper_mouth ) and start discussing.

@travisbell No disrespect to the excellent job that you are doing is intended.
