Discuss Old Enough!

The Japanese version of this show is considerably different with lots of talking about the events resulting in each episode being 30 minutes long. The Netflix series strips out all the talking and leaves just the kids doing their errands, resulting in each episode being around 10 mins. They also changed the order of the children.

I think there should be two titles - one called "My First Errand" which is the original Japanese show (which is this series), and a new one called "Old Enough!" which is the Netflix redux series.

IMDB doesn't have the Netflix version as a seperate show (ID tt1289730). TheTVDB does have it as a seperate show (ID 418589).

They also changed the order of the children.

Can you explain what you mean exactly? Does the content of each episode remain the same? Or were bits and pieces of multiple episodes mashed together to form completely new episodes?

On Japanese television, this programme is aired 2 times a year. Each programme is hosted by several Japanese presenters who talk about the content between the taped segments. Strictly speaking, there are only two episodes per year in the original, which run for 2-3 hours each.

Netflix, on the other hand, lists these filmed segments as individual episodes. The "discussion part" does not appear. Furthermore, these segments are not shown in the original order.

For example, episodes 1 and 2 from Netflix are segments from 2008, episode 3 from 2009 and episode 4 from 2016. They jump back and forth.

On TMDB, the series is currently shown as a mix between the two:

The filmed segments are listed as individual episodes, but the correct order is maintained. This makes it easy to keep track of which segments you have already seen, but does not correspond to either "reality".

It's really hard to make a call without all the info. But it sounds like this could be an exception to the no alternative version rule. thinking

What other info do you need? I'll try my best.

I think @silsha explained it pretty well, and I'd love to be able to track the netflix version on trakt (season two was just released)

Old Enough! has been distributed internationally on Netflix since March 31, 2022, stripped down to ten-minute segments focusing only on the children's errands. Netflix has repackaged it as “Old Enough!,” removed the between-segment banter from Japanese TV personalities and chopped its typical three-hour run time down to 10-minute-long clips that focus on just the kids, albeit with a studio audience laugh track intact.

What further info do you need? Do you suggest a separate entry as a separate show or spinoff ?

I came here to start fixing exactly the same thing. https://thetvdb.com/series/hajimete-no-otsukai is even worse... Anyway, the original Japanese version is a different thing, and the Netflix stuff is a chopped up and summarized version of the original show. I would consider the two separate at this point.. This press release gives a decent overview of what's going on with NTV's licensing to Netflix: https://www.ntv.co.jp/english/pressrelease/20221213.html

To answer banana's question, "Or were bits and pieces of multiple episodes mashed together to form completely new episodes?" Yes, that's exactly what's going on. I don't mind filling out episode info for as far as they list on the official site (which goes back 10 years, from what I could find) https://www.ntv.co.jp/otsukai/index20110427.html

Checking IMDB, it lists the original show with start date in 1990, but then only lists episodes from Netflix interpretation of season/episodes.. so same thing as thetvdb.

I think I might be the opposite of the others posting in the sense that I want to track my recordings on the original full length show.
