Discuss The Walking Dead

Another "there you go again" scene happened when Rick was chasing Negan down the slope of the hill. He was firing his revolver, and appearing to take deliberate aim. At that distance he should have gotten at least one hit. But again............when shooting walkers Rick can get head shots with ease. But when shooting at Negan, he can blaze away all day and never even nick the guy.

So Rick lets a couple shots go at Negan, then looks at his revolver with that surprised expression, 'Dang, out of ammo'. Come on, he was a deputy sheriff, and he shoots that handgun on a regular basis when killing walkers. He knows it holds six rounds. And I can tell you that I know about how many shots I have taken with my revolver. I have a good idea when I am low on ammo. (Rick always wastes ammo, especially when he has a fully automatic subgun, blazing away whenever his target is protected by cover. Then he is surprised when he runs out of ammo. Every time he is surprised! Like 'gee these things go empty? How does that happen?')

Now Rick knew Negan had that bat, but he ran his revolver dry without ever taking a good shot, like he always does when shooting at Negan. What's up with that? Has Andrew decided he won't shoot actual people on the show?

Then in an obvious attempt to turn my stomach, Rick betrayed me and the entire television watching audience by breaking the many, many promises he made to avenge the multiple, gruesome, torturous murders Negan committed by killing him. Even though Negan kept getting away time after time, the one saving thought I had was "well at least when that guy finally gets what is coming to him, it will be a dandy of a scene". Instead, what did we get?

Rick referenced Carl's maudlin "can't we all just be friends" letter shortly before calling for first aid for Negan! Then he denied Maggie the justice due her for the brutal murder of her husband Glenn. What was Rick even thinking? It's not like he assassinated Negan; Rick was in a fight for his life. It was self defense. There was no need to call for first aid for that murderous thug. Just last week I was saying on this forum that whatever they did, there was NO WAY they could ignore the brutal dictatorship of Negan with his penchant for terrorism and murder, there was no way Rick could be swayed by Carl's letter to let Negan live. The entire TWD audience would vomit simultaneously if he did that. ..........And now look what happened.

To top it all off he had the nerve to stand there and make a speech to the group, and issue another promise, saying that those who didn't live by the new rules would pay the price, adding "I promise you that."

Really Rick? You promise? Is that like you promised Maggie and anyone else who would listen that you were going to kill Negan? Because we heard that promise who knows how many times, and heard it given with a lot more conviction.

Who knows what Rick is going to do next season? He might announce that he has decided to be true to feelings that he's been suppressing for far too long, and is making the courageous step to begin hormone replacement therapy. He might raid a department store and start sporting a new wardrobe and wearing mascara.

I had a feeling when I heard the background music, with the peaceful sounding chimes, that they were going to go all "Kum Ba Yah" on us. There were several things about this episode which seemed like it could have been a series finale for a while. But then that scene with Maggie, Daryl, and Jesus made the case for another season.

And what the hell was that all about? The "Jesus" character is a devious thief when he wants to be, but lately he has been all peace-nik on everyone. He fought Morgan to keep him from killing that cretin who took so much pleasure in killing that kid at the kingdom. And he counseled Morgan in this episode that he didn't need to kill these people (who were trying to kill him). So how is it he is down with Maggie and Daryl when they are critical of Rick for not letting Negan die? Is Jesus just spying on them? I have a feeling he is going to rat them out to Rick.

Jesus IS NOT down with the plan to overturn Rick. That IS NOT what Jesus would do!

He is just a person of interest who is in the right place at the right time. Otherwise, whatever Maggie is cooking up...NO ONE will see it coming from her and Daryl. Two of the most trusted and old school Rick and Co. allies. Members of The Family.

Yah. This nefarious plan needs and inside man as an informant and/or saboteur.

Yeah, I think "Jesus" is playing along in order to keep tabs on what they are planning. Why Maggie and Daryl included him in their discussion is inexplicable. The writers offered no explanation for that. Maggie and Daryl are not severely retarded. They know Jesus is against killing anyone, and they know he is devious. They've formed no close bond with him in the past. So including him in their secret discussions is more implausible than the many ways Negan has escaped harm. I guess the writers think the viewing public is really stupid and that we wouldn't notice.

And it isn't exactly clear what they are planning; their tone was ominous but the wording wasn't exactly so. They basically expressed a lack of agreement with Rick's broken promises and reversal of position, and spoke of biding their time until they could....I'm not sure what they are thinking of doing.

"Nefarious plan"? What plan? They never really specifically said what they are thinking of doing. Do they want to break away from the group and take like minded people with them? Are they planning on killing Negan themselves? Are they planning on gaining the support of a majority of the group and having a vote to take over leadership of the group? It wasn't clear to me exactly what they want to do.

But I don't blame them for their new distrust of Rick. I can't count the number of times Rick promised people, Maggie, Negan, and the others that he was going to kill Negan. And the way he said it left no doubt about his unshakable determination to do it. And Negan is one dude who needs to be dead. Then when he had the chance to follow through on his repeated promise to end the guy, he backed off the gas at the last second.

Now suddenly, Rick has made himself judge and jury and head of State. He sentenced Negan to life without parole, on his own. (By the way, does anybody see this as anything more than just another way for Negan to escape justice yet again? TWD writers just can't stop this stupid tease, dangling Negan's death in front of us time after time, then letting him slip away from it. And does anyone doubt that Negan will escape and try to renew his pathological 'salvation' again?)

Rick jumped up and gave a short speech, warning everyone to follow the new rules or else they would "pay the price".
"I PROMISE YOU THAT" he told them. I almost horse laughed when I heard him say that. (You mean like you promised to kill Negan over and over again?)

How can anyone listen to Rick use that tone of voice, and say those words "I promise you that", and not roll their eyes? We have heard him talk like that many times before. And it doesn't mean anything.

I don't blame Maggie AT ALL. Glenn's head was bashed in so hard that his eyeballs popped out. Abraham also had his brains bashed. And countless others were brutally executed in front of others by Negan to terrorize people into being "saved", i.e. becoming his slaves. And let's not forget his public torturing of people.
But TWD writers then tried to humanize him, showed him express feelings of affection toward Carl. [Gee, maybe we misjudged Negan. He's not such a bad guy after all. Sure he does that murder stuff, but look how nice he is to Carl! And he does want to save people, he just does it in a funny, killy kind of way.] Yeah, Negan practices a 'religion of peace' after all.

TWD has dramatically dropped in the ratings since this Negan story line began. Fully half the viewers have stopped tuning in since the season before he was introduced. The writing has become boringly formulaic. It's the same tease over and over. They really overplayed it. Instead of building tension and interest in the story they have made it something of a joke. I have lost respect for Rick, and I am betting I'm not alone in that.

I'm going to have to get back to you on your reply to my post. But for now, the only thing that jumped out at me was, "they know he is devious". Who? Because if it's Jesus. I'm scratching my head.

I lost all respect for Rick after the first few seasons. He's a moron, who through bad decisions, turns everything into a disaster. And manages to bring death to anyone who passes the leadership unto him. Are there any original Alexandrians left?

I feel sorry for Andrew Lincoln having to portray this character, I must be painful reading every script and thinking, "The writers can't possibly want Rick to do this." I assume the salary if the only thing keeping him on the show.

When we were first introduced to Jesus he lied to them, tricked them, and then stole their truck full of food. Soon afterward they 'redeemed' Jesus, showing him as a nice, reasonable guy. And we have seen him that way since. But they are aware of his capacity to lie and steal. He did an excellent job of lying and fooling them the first time we saw him, and they are aware he has that capacity. They also know that he is against killing people, even those who have sadistically murdered children, and those who are trying to kill you. They know this from his interactions with Morgan, some of which happened out in the open in front of everyone. So it makes no sense that Maggie would call Jesus to that meeting and expect him to side against Rick because Rick broke his promises to kill Negan. She should know that Jesus would not be inclined to criticize Rick for sparing his life. Maggie and Daryl are not stupid, so why did they invite Jesus?

What do you think I should be concerned about?

Yeah, I don't know. You're probably right. It's just sometimes one particular thing bugs you, you know?
