Discuss Mission: Impossible

I've incurred a lot of recent expenses. I won't bore the board with details, but the bright side is that I am getting a lot of cash back from Amazon. I will order season 7 of Mission: Impossible and am considering the 1988 reboot. Has anyone seen it? Is it any good.

I remember trying to watch it when it came on TV, but I had too much fun that year and my attention span was horrible and I couldn't follow it.

So I'm wondering if anyone here has any opinions on it. (I may just spend my money on something else.)

I went to the movie theater to see the first one, when it was released in 1996. The one where Jim Phelps is the traitorous villain. Haven't watched any since.

That was the worst one

Actually, the worst Mission Impossible movie was Mission Impossible 2. While I was VERY upset when it turned out in the first Mission Impossible movie that Jim Phelps was the bad guy, I also have to admit that I thought, "That was one hell of a plot twist. I did not see that coming!"

Fun Fact: The Mission Impossible movie version of Jim Phelps is based on CIA Agent Aldrich Ames, who was convicted of selling US intelligence secrets to the Russians.

I would tend to agree that that may have been the weakest of the movie series. I enjoyed it for what it was. I could've done with out the slow motion stuff in the action scene.

MEANWHILE, back at the original post......

I have to say that I really enjoyed Rebecca Ferguson's performance as MI-6 Agent Elsa Faust from Mission Impossible Rogue Nation and Mission Impossible Fallout.

I've been watching the Mission Impossible 1988 episodes on YouTube again. I just finished watching the episode where Casey is killed and gets the distinction of becoming the only IMF Agent to ever be disavowed, and introduces Shannon Reed, who apparently was a Secret Service Agent before she joined the IMF. One of the villains in this particular episode turns out to be tmdb Mission Impossible Board poster favorite Barbara Luna (when I saw her I yelled at my phone "Elena, what are you doing being one of the bad guys? Did you go crazy again?"). She's playing a Imelda Marcos type of dictator who stole a lot of money before fleeing her country. The IMF'S mission is to get the money transfered back to her country without her knowledge. It was actually pretty decent. I'm going to miss Casey.

Oh yeah good episode. At first when I watched this series I was not a Casey fan and that hasn’t changed all that much when I rewatched it but I liked her a smidgeon better 😁

@Jayhn1111 : Me too.

@Jayhn1111 What did you think about Shannon?

I liked her. Some people felt the show focused too much on her. I didn't see it that way and I thought she was very good. It was Casey who I really didn't care for. Not the original MI Casey obviously. The one in this series.

@Jayhn1111: From what I understand, the actress who played Casey quit because she didn't like being the Eye Candy of the reboot.

By definition, the agent in that role has to be appealing because that is also how she can manipulate criminals for the benefit of the mission or distract people when necessary. So I don't really understand what she was expecting from it.

@Jayhn1111: Barbara Bain being the Eye Candy on the first 3 seasons of Classic Mission Impossible won her 3 Emmies!

So true 😊

@Jayhn1111: Would an Honorary Impossible Missions Force Agent like me lie?
