Discuss The Vietnam War

First, let me just say, I thoroughly enjoyed this series, but it was very long. I can't imagine how difficult something like this is to shoot, cut and produce, so I'm not being critical, but it is stunning in it's length. I'm sure something as intricate as the Vietnam War could be much longer, like a minute for every story of every life. That said, there is some redundancy in the narrative, which might not be as noticeable when it was broadcast, but when binge watching become quite apparent. Still, those moments also help connect the stories and timelines involved.

Anyway, I did the math and this series weighs in at 16 1/2 hours (998 minutes) over 10 episodes, so if you are going in prepare yourselves.

As a kid who grew up in 80's. I always knew the scar Vietnam put on the American psyche. But i never knew just how much of a clusterf#ck it all was.

It would not have been a scar anywhere near as much if most Americans had known how Ho Chi Minh committed terrible brutal mass-murder in the 1950's against NV landlords. Burns's book on 'Nam showed this of Ho.

Watch out for a bad troll possibly coming on these boards named Jet.

Well i differently think Ho Chi Minh was full of Sh!t and not anywhere close to the so called "wise man" he tried to portray himself as. You can't go around talking about wanting freedom for your country and then depriving people of basic human rights like Freedom of Speech. But in some ways, I think the viet-cong had the upper hand. They were determined and they had a whole Jungle to hide in. In a different environment, i think the Americans could have kept the Viet-cong in line. But as it was, I just don't think we could have won the war.

Good point about the freedom of speech loss in NV. About Vietcong. I see your point of view however. Actually South Vietnam would have likely stayed intact politically way past 1975 had it just not been for a rule created in US Congress in 1973 forbidding presidents to use military force for more than 90 days. Different war indeed if most Americans had just known about Ho's ultra-murdering Antics in the 1950's.
