I am the only person on the planet who could not get into The Wire. Everyone I know thinks it's brilliant. I tried twice, found it tedious and annoying, and now I just have a stubborn resistance to it.

you just have to keep watching and be patient, pay attention, then you get used to it and then at the end you will say its one of the best shows ever made. i also had to force myself in the beginning because i didnt have the patience. but then after a few episodes when you get to know everyone,it also gets easier to watch. just go and watch it and finish it and only then you will know for sure if you like it or not. and then comment on it on the wire board;) Kay, I'm right up there with you. I even bought the entire season on DVD (before On Demand became so huge) and tried. Kenny, I'll give it another go because I want to be proven wrong 😎 and I need another show to binge on

That depends on how much in touch with your dark side you are. I watched the 1st season and couldn't go on. It disturbed me too much for some reason. Specially the incestuos undertones. It is seems somehow sicker to me than Dexter.

Having said that it is a superbly made show with great acting and scripting.

No. Twice for me too with the Wire.

Same thing with GOT.

But I love GOT. I clearly lack logical consistency! I always have a hard time finding the clear thread which explains what I like and don't like. It's like I have an entertainment mood disorder.

so i loved the wire, but i had to do my best to get into it,but glad that i did. then i hate GOT,its too fantasy too unrealistic to me or something. but on the other hand i love the x files, fringe, twilightzone ,twin peaks . i really like shows like 6 feet under, lost, breaking bad. i think i just really prefer the family thing/black comedy or scifi like those above with a little action here and there perhaps. love true detective, fargo also.except for both i didnt like season 2. i hated westworld in the first episode,so i stopped right there. i just want to like all the shows that exist!then i have more to watch!

I love everything else you listed. West world gets truly better, and when it was over I realized there was far more to it than I initially thought. I rewatched and saw tiny things which had flown by unnoticed.

I probably would have given up on GOT but my husband is a huge fan, and watches very little TV, so I watch with him. It grew on me.

True detective season 2 was atrocious.

yes maybe i will pick up on westworld again another time. GOT a lot less chance of me watching that, but you never know. where i'm really looking forward now is: better call saul s3 twin peaks s3 fargo s3 house of cards s5 the leftovers s3 you watch any of these?

All of them except house of cards, which I stopped watching at the beginning of season 2 after my binge a few months ago, because I was too horrified and am still waiting to heal. Train. Jesus.

Most excited about twin peaks reboot. and better call Saul just gets better and better.

Have you watched billions on showtime? It's a soap opera but really well cast (Paul giamatti) and somehow quite entertaining. If you like house of cards you might enjoy it.

Oh, yes, Better Call Saul! Delicious! I don't let myself be excited about Twin Peaks, since I don't trust David Lynch, will see how it goes. Even if I won't like it, I will always have the "old" twin Peaks.

I think i will check out billions soonish, I love Paul. Or wasn't there some new show too where Giamatti extracts his soul and then is trying to get it back? I am definitely seeing that!

The Giamatti thing about his soul was a movie called Cold Souls. It's currently available on Amazon Prime. I really liked it.

oh, thanks!!!! will watch!

I have not seen any of the shows that you have mentioned but I will say this about Bates Motel:

This is a very good show. It moves at a slower pace than most other shows, but the acting and writing are top notch. Vera Fleming puts on a great performance as Norman's mother and Freddie Highmore has done a great job of slowly building Normans increasingly deteriorating state of mind. It's like watching a really bad car wreck happen in slow motion. You know it's coming and the outcome is going to be terrible for the people involved but you can't look away.

Vera Farmiga
