I have not seen any of the shows that you have mentioned but I will say this about Bates Motel:
This is a very good show. It moves at a slower pace than most other shows, but the acting and writing are top notch. Vera Fleming puts on a great performance as Norman's mother and Freddie Highmore has done a great job of slowly building Normans increasingly deteriorating state of mind. It's like watching a really bad car wreck happen in slow motion. You know it's coming and the outcome is going to be terrible for the people involved but you can't look away.

When I'm uncertain about a specific tv show, I usually give the entire first season a chance and if I'm not convinced, then that's it. In the case of "Bates Motel", it's only ten episodes per season, so it's no big deal. Though I should say that the first season isn't even the best, imho.

I loved most of the shows you mentioned. I like bates very much. It's not as sharp as breaking bad but it's atmospheric and whacky. Some seasons are better than others but I think it's worth pushing through.

I couldn't get into TWD either, for some reason. It doesn't look so bad, but I just don't get the big deal. As for AHS, the first two seasons went great, and then it went downhill like you wouldn't believe.

I am the only person on the planet who could not get into The Wire. Everyone I know thinks it's brilliant. I tried twice, found it tedious and annoying, and now I just have a stubborn resistance to it.

you just have to keep watching and be patient, pay attention, then you get used to it and then at the end you will say its one of the best shows ever made. i also had to force myself in the beginning because i didnt have the patience. but then after a few episodes when you get to know everyone,it also gets easier to watch. just go and watch it and finish it and only then you will know for sure if you like it or not. and then comment on it on the wire board;)

DEEP stubborn internal resistance. It's a thing for me, now. I identify by it. It's like being an atheist only god has a gun and a bunch of monotone dialogue.

I loved the first 2 seasons of AHS. I've basically given up halfway through season 3......

I couldn't either .. it's just too grown up for me.. it's like a play than a series I know it's serious good writing and acting but as I said just not entertaining enough for me.

I am a huge fan of Hitchcock's "Psycho", so I wondered how well this interpretation of it would fare and it's an all-time series as far as I'm concerned. Other than 'Six Feet Under', 'Bates Motel' probably my favorite series of the last 15 years.
