Discuss Doctor Who

Well obviously there was no 90's Who as a series , but suppose there was? Who could have played The Doctor, would the style slowly have evolved so we'd end up with a seamless transition to Noughties Who ? Certainly there would be no Classic/Nu Who dichotomy. I admit at the time I didn't like the McCoy era but now I see it as ahead of its time, preparing the way for an updated show, showed great promise, sadly never realized.

Mcgann would have played the doctor.

Do you realise you can post this to the doctor who board, go to the doctor who page and click the speech bubble button to the left of the picture.

edit: it's been moved.

Rumour has it that if the 1996 movie "Doctor Who" was a success in the USA, Paul McGann would have continued his role as the Eight Doctor in a new television series. As it was then a joint venture between the BBC and Fox, any incarnation after that might have been played by other actors and the Doctor Who Universe would differ significantly from that what we now know as Nu Who.

There's a few good books about the proposed outline for the Mcgann series, According to "Doctor Who Regeneration" by Gary Russell:

  • Introduce "the spider daleks"

  • Have a semi remake of the deamons set in Salem

  • Have a flash back episode featuring McCoy as the 7th doctor.

  • An episode where the Cybermen would attack Gallifreyan outcasts

  • An episode with the Sea Devils attacking Louisiana oil rig

  • It was also going to reintroduce Romana in a remake of Shada (with Professor Cronotis introduced as Romana's uncle) which led directly into the doctor returning the book he stole to the panoptican arcives and finding the Scrolls which revealed The master was the doctors half brother.

In my opinion the outline actually sounds really good.

It would be awesome having Romana return.

Wouldn't be keen on the Doctor and Master being related. I don't think it would add anything, they were childhood friends, they both left gallifrey bored with the quiet life. They have enough in common and a long history that they will always be connected. If they were revealed to be related it would raise questions of why this was never mentioned. I'm not keen generally in them exploring the doctors background too much as I prefer him to remain mysterious.

It would become a soap opera if it turns out they are half-brothers laughing

What I was thinking in my OP was if the series carried on after '89 without a break who could have followed McCoy? Who at the time would have been great as The Doctor. My choice would have been Keith Barron, Stryker, from Enlightenment. Watching him in Duty Free, his comedic talent mixed with Stryker's seriousness could have worked. Another choice Peter "Onedin" Gilmour.

My pick would have been Edward Tudour Pole

Ironically one of Paul Mcganns brothers was actually suggested in the 90's.

Ed tudor-pole is one I could imagine as the doctor. I always got the feeling Richard e.grant would have been keen and he did play the doctor in the scream of the shalka and was in the curse of the fatal death. My guess would have been at least another series of McCoy followed by Grant then maybe Mcgann. Not a bad decade really.

Ed Tudor Pole would had me run to the hills.
