The reason i say this is "huge" is that it undermines the entire storyline of season 4. If Peter Gregory theorized this new internet, was so obsessed it and knew that it required a compression beyond the theoretical limit, how would he not put two and two together the second he saw Richards algorithm and compression capabilities.

For someone like Gregory, that would not have slipped through the cracks, he certainly would have seen the connection immediately...

Yeah but Peter died right? Just as the actor who played him died. So perhaps he was very ill and distracted with just trying to survive?

He was perfectly lucid for a long time during the shows timeline, consistently coming up with brilliant ideas and making spectacular connections (The Burger King episode) linking the mating habits of cicadas to poppy seed farming globally. There was nothing in the show that ever showed him as anything other than a brilliant, shrewd genius, that say things no one else ever saw. And all that happened AFTER he discovered Richard's algorithm.

Hooli had the rights/patent, though.

It still would have came up, the story would be completely different as they (Richard and Peter) would pursue that avenue in earlier seasons, given that it was his obsession and a far more massive and important development that anything pied piper was attempting at the time.

True, but I have a feeling the show will pretty much bounce all over the place and will be also influenced by whats really going on in the real SV. I remember they started doing the whole snapchat mustache thing when everyone started putting those stupid dog ears on their selfies.

I made another thread on the show asking if the Pied Piper team will ever actually achieve big success as in become very wealthy and move into a bigger mansion than Bachman's little place.

Good point.
