I saw a list of confirmed show returns and cacellations about a week ago and Taboo is coming back for sure.

Why is there a second season? What is this show even about? I watched the first season, and it took me a while to get through it. But I figured they would end the show in the season finale. Like this was more of a mini-series than a full series. I don't see them dragging this show out for years and keeping it interesting. This is why I'm not big into FX shows. Their premise works great for short series, but not so much for long, drawn out series over years.

I dunno, I guess I just like closure and most shows never really give any.

I agree, maybe the story wasn't as strong as it could have been. The whole point was Tom Hardy's character being insane, criminal and being a mystical half Aboriginal. But I watched it as a fan of Tom Hardy's acting. As of late, my above list is what Tom Hardy is best at, so I just enjoyed his acting and staring wild-eyed at people, telling everyone that he's got 'a use for you'. I think you have to be a Tom Hardy fan to have enjoyed Taboo. His acting is facsinating. He can change his accent to anything and even the sound of his voice. He is also the producer of this show so it's probably a character type he was dying to play. If you have see Bronson or Peaky Blinders (season 2 and on) or The Revenant, you will see where this character comes from.

If I could watch only one show for the rest of my life, this might be it. I don't understand why anyone who watches this show isn't completely awestruck.

its back in 2018 no month release yet.

Shows that are convoluted don't awe strike me. I like shows that have 1 plot, but great character development and they don't leave you hanging on a thread hoping for the slightest insight to what the show is supposed to be about.

Speaking of which, what the fuck was that show about?

Glad to hear it. I found this show on Sling TV and binge watched the first season. Tom Hardy is great in this role.

It was set in real British history at that time. The main plot of the show was how Britain was still involved in the slave trade in the 1700's via The East India Company (a quite real and quite wealthy company....now you can find EICo. tea LOL), even though slave trading in England was outlawed by then. They were going to Africa and changing the boats flag to an American one, buying slaves and selling to the West Indies (the carribean). Now...when James Delaney was 11 he started working on these East India ships and was forced to take part in all of this. And on one fateful trip, the EI Company's ship ran aground off of Africa and the captain made Delaney and other young men nail down the hatch where all the slaves were kept and they all drowned. Hence the scenes in the opening credits (Drowning slaves and a drowning Delaney). When Delaney washed up on African shores everything happened to him from being taken hostage to being taken in by traditional African tribes, where he saw horrible things and learned voodoo. So after becoming a changed man and suffering PTSD from nailing down the slave hatch to seeing horrible tribal stuff, he came back to England with a hate on for the evil East India Company, and his goal was to take them down. He was also tortured by the way his father treated his Aboriginal bride (James' mother), and the fact that his father swindled an Island off of Canadian British Columbia for beads. (That Island is probably Victoria Island off of Vancouver Canada). So James Delany's conscious was driving him mad and he also wanted to ruin the evil East India Company....And the Americans hiding in London because they condoned slavery. So in the end he ruined everyone he wanted to take down and him and his friends boarded a ship for Nootka Sound (Victoria Island, BC). Sorry this is so long winded. I left some less important thongs out to shorten it. But all of this was based on REAL British/American/African/Canadian history. So that's the run down. If you want to know the real story, look up Britain's illegal slave trade in 18th century. And look up the evil doings of the East India Company. To 'get' this story you have to know the slave trading history that the Brits weren't 😉 doing. If you know this stuff, the story will make sense. Also, turn on your subtitles. I had to do that as I am Canadian. BTW, please don't think I was ever talking down to you for one moment. British/Canadian/American history is a love of mine. I just loved the show so much that I want you to UNDERSTAND the real history behind it so that you could enjoy it also. I hope now you give the second season a chance. I think it will be James's rag tag group landing in Nootka Sound and getting attacked by Natives/British/Americans. That is my guess. And they will run out of ammo so they will have to invent brutal ways of killing people. The story is very much based on real Brit/Can/US History (we were all at war with each other at that time. The US and Canada were ESPECIALLY at war at that time over the proposed border. And Canada was just a bunch of British colonists at the time. It was brutal. BTW, did you know that the Canadians burned down the American White house around that time? Anyway, enough history because I'm sure if you are interested, you will look all of this up. Sorry for the long message. I hope after doing some history research you will come to love the first season if you see it again or will like the second season with mad James Delaney. 🙄

Thanks for the summary. I always thought it interesting that most early Canadians were British who fled the colonies because they didn't want to oppose the crown when the American revolution got going.

Yes, us Canadians are the Kings of 1(not wanting to take a hard stand, 2)avoidance ie: just not dealing. BUT WE ARE EXCRUCIATINGLY POLITE, LOL!

As a fellow Canadian was delighted with this shows take on history and would have loved its existence during my school days as history class would have been much more interesting. With a great cast and period appeal I hope this series goes a few more years. Great description of the show and politely Canadian

Well thank you very much my fellow countryman! I hope for more seasons also, and I HAVE heard that season 2 is in filming....but I am getting discouraged by how slow the filming and release are coming along. From what I have read, this show is a passion project of Tom Hardy and his father. It's THEIR personal project, financially backed by them. So the fate of the show depends on how important it is to the Hardy family. I would feel more secure if this was a 'major studio' project. I WANT MORE OF THIS SHOW DAMMIT!!!! LOL, (joking around).
