Diskuse o Star Trek: Discovery

I would like to hear what fans hope or wish season 3 of Star Trek Discovery will be about. The creative team have given us with no firm idea but I think they might have left some bread crumbs in the recent short 'Calypso' and the 2nd episode ' New Eden'. We know that Burnham, DSC and a reasonable number of her crew are headed 930 years into the future. Because of this, the DSC writers finally have a clean slate! There are no more canon restraints! They can invent ANY history they want for the Federation, for the universe, for DSC. What do you think they'll do?

Please, this is NOT the place to revisit old complaints or to fight for a new spin off show which will be a sure hit! If that is what you want to do, set up that discussion, I might join you there. Also, I would like to appeal to posters to NOT to use the abbreviation 'STD' when referring to DSC. Apart from it's obvious negative connotation it also breaks from the conventions used for Star Trek series abbreviations. We don't say 'Star Trek The Original Series ' (STTOS) or 'Star Trek The Next Generation' ( STTNG) or 'Star Trek Deep Space 9' (STDS9), we simply say TOS, TNG and DS9 respectively. Similarly we do not need to add the prefix ST for discovery. DSC or DISCO will suffice.

So, what about season 3? What would you like and what do you think will happen if the two are not the same? What will season 3 be like?

The problem with DISC is that they should have let the show take lace in the future in the first place without putting in all the stuff the previous producers and writers thought would attract Trekkies ,They could have spared themselves all the criticism and complaints season 1 and 2 raised. They now used some vague connection with ENT and TOS by having it take place between ENT and TOS which resulted that the writers wrote themselves into a corner with the their constant subverting of expectations(like the re-BSG did) and had to come up with this ridiculous solution if you can't use Deus Ex Machina use time travel .They could have spared themselves all that if they just had said that DISC would take place 700 years in the future of the OT.

Look, if you want to set up another forum, I will join you there and give you 3 very good reasons why they did not start the show in the future they are now.

That aside, so what do you think season 3 should or will be about?

I'm sure YOU think they would be very good reasons. So what?

I give you the biggest reason why they did it franchise connection/ familiarity in the hope of making more MONEY.

Knixon and Nexus71 and everyone reading,

Did I not nicely ask you guys to take this discussion elsewhere. I even promised to join you there and give you my thoughts. What do you do? Ignore my appeals completely and continue to discuss what YOU want. Kind of like what you want to do with DSC eh? YOU don't like serialized fiction, so ST must NOT be serialized. Complete disregard for the norms that would make ANY discussion, enlightening, interesting, an exchange of opinions , maybe even worth while. Even without hearing my reasons Knixon is ready to dismiss them..., with a "so what?" dripping with contempt ...wow! Guys, your are only making my point!

Conceit perhaps? a sense of entitlement? a feeling that YOUR pov. must ALWAYS take precedence? I'll try again. I'm not saying examining why DSC was originally a pre-quel is a bad idea. I am asking you to do it elsewhere. If you do not have ANY ideas about what season 3 could or should be like then don't say anything...here...please?

I have ago.

I think we'll get at least a few eps set in the far future, but suspect that we'll soon return to the "present" as it were. I just hope there isn't some sort of magic device that allows communication or other interaction with the time that they have left. cf Stargate Universe.

A "future"-set show would at least stop the Canon Crew from bleating so much, but I wonder if the audience actually wants to watch a show set so far away from the familiarity of The Federation.

Well in a sense they already have gone to the far future in the Calypso short trek, haven't they? I'm sure the CC will hold them accountable for that! Besides , why create an Odysseus like story if they don't mean to integrate it into ST lore in some way? I share your concern that DSC remain connected to the rest of ST and I am sure the people behind DSC understand that too. It will certainly be interesting to see.

Or maybe not.

Trolling now knixon? No marches to get ready for? Or you hoping some SJW genes will permeate the impenetrable? Stick around fellow, you WILL learn something!

Marches? I only see marches in the news for unlimited immigration, killing babies, and other left nonsense. Aren't you late?

Lol Knixon, you didn't even SEE the one in Charlottesville march? Really man? You know you lie in one thing, you lie in everything right? Want to lose ALL credibility now? I mean, I never believed you anyway but there just might be some right winger silently following you who is shaking his head in disbelief right now. Take it back , Just admit you willfully LIED in your last statement. It was in a political cause but it was a lie just the same lol!

Those weren't conservatives. I suggest you read "Liberal Fascism" by Jonah Goldberg.

"Marches? I only see marches in the news for unlimited immigration, killing babies, and other left nonsense."

That's what you said man, you haven't even edited it ...yet. Not a word there about conservatives.

So I'll give you an out. Just admit you lied when you made that statement BECAUSE when you tried to troll me and I responded by asking you if there weren't any marches to get ready for, you thought I mean't 'conservative ' marches and, according to you and maybe Jonah Goldberg, the Charlottesville marchers weren't conservative.

Admit that and we are good.

You missed the part about "and other left nonsense?"

Just because someone disagrees with you, doesn't somehow automatically make them "conservative."

As the book points out just for one example, Nazi Germany was the National SOCIALIST Party. They were far from conservative. And hero-of-the-left Margaret Sanger, certainly no conservative, was a Hitler supporter and founded Planned Parenthood based on her shared ideas of eugenics, including/especially getting black people to abort themselves as much as possible. Which she seems to have achieved.

Still trying to troll Knixon? Happy to become a liar, excuse me, conservative liar to accomplish it?
