I'm currently only on Episode 3, but something was nagging me about this series, then it hit me: there is no (not yet anyway) guiding moral Character. That is to say, this depressing, back-stabbing, dystopian past (definitely not history, but fiction) is what would be if there were no true Moral Authority, nor anyone who truly believed in one. This is human depravity at is worst, and projected from this sorry past into our current human condition. Praise God it's not really like this in real life, no wonder those who believe such things are so depressed and hopeless.
That said, there is something else, there is something about the action, the ebbs and flows--and specifically the score--that is tropy, and familiar. I am unsure who produced/directed this (I know, I could look it up), but I've definitely "seen" this series before, in different clothes. It's got a Sons of Anarchy/Walking Dead-ish vibe of some sort. Thoughts?
