Actually, it's not that bad. Some campy acting all around, but Hill (Owen) keeps it real. It's just odd seeing him without the extra weight. Dr. Fujita on the other hand, khm, khm....what's with the loopy wig and incessant smoking? It looks like she picked up smoking for this show. The end is "sweet".

If you're struggling with the first ep, you're going to struggle with the series. It doesn't get better, IMO.

I don't agree. I was falling asleep through e1 and 2, but by episode 3 i got sucked in. binge-watched the rest. Loved the whole thing.

Probably depends on what you are looking for. As you said in your reply to my #tryhard post, the series starts with much intrigue and ends in banality. If you like simple story telling then you might enjoy the series beyond the first few eps, if you want something more engaging, you will likely be disappointed as the series squanders such a beautifully complex start.

As to @drjekel_mrhyde original point, I didn't have any particular expectations of Jonah Hill, nor much history with his work, so the fact that he has lost weight (and good for him, as I would expect he's much healthier) didn't distract from his performance. Again, for me it likely made his character more engaging. Trying to re-envision his performance as a heavier individual makes his character far less quirky IMO.
