Discuss Traitors

Not done watching the first episode yet. I just watched the scene where a newspaper is dropped on a breakfast table with the headline saying the US dropped the A Bomb on Japan. There were somber faces all around. The young lady threatened to quit working for the US as a spy over this. Bullshit.

In the first place, nobody knew what an atomic weapon even was back then. And when they learned that it was a powerful new weapon developed in the US, the Brits were glad. Japan was their enemy in the war as well as ours. The Japanese brutally tortured and killed many allied soldiers, British as well as American. Sure the A bomb killed 140,000, but WWII had already claimed 50 million lives. And conventional bombing of Tokyo caused more deaths in one night than the A Bomb did in Hiroshima.

So historically it was ridiculous to show these Brits reacting this way to the news of the A Bomb.
