Discuss General Hospital

If anyone here has ever met a GH actor past or present, please list them as well as when and some details. I'm sure it was mentioned at some point on the other board but I can't remember. I must have amnesia. Perhaps I'm a dead Port Charles resident and I don't even know it! LOL

I had the chance to meet Tyler Christopher today. He was in my town for an event. But I chose to go to work. To be fair, I'm a new associate so it might not have been the best idea to call in. But I lost a chance to meet the Prince. So I just should have done it!

I have met quite a few. Living in Los Angeles I have met and bumped into many of the actors around town in restaurants, malls, grocery stores, movie theaters, etc. I did have an opportunity to visit the GH set twice as well and I met some of the actors those days and watched them tape scenes. I will name them by character name since many people may not know their real names. I have met Alexis, Diane, Mac, Spinelli, Milo, Emily (NL), Courtney, Helena, Nikolas, Patrick, Jason (SB), Sonny, Elizabeth, Connie/Kate (KS), Maxie (JL), Robin (sort of), Lucas. It's too much to give details of each encounter but I can tell you if you want to know about a specific one. But everyone was SUPER nice. The only standoff-ish ones were Tyler Christopher and Kimberly McCullough. Everyone else was extremely nice and grateful that I would even come up to them and chat.

We went to a fan signing for Scott Reeves (Steven Webber) back when he was still Ryan McNeil on Y&R in the 1990s. And that was only because my sister had a huge crush on him back then. Needless to say, when it came time to sign a picture for her, she flirted with him. He laughed at whatever it was she told him. I told her, you DO know he's married right? lol

Nevertheless, he was super friendly to everyone and that line was pretty long.

Why does it not surprise me that Kimberly was standoffish lol

Randomly or professionally:

  • Tony Geary
  • Wally Kurth
  • Rena Sofer
  • Sean Kanan
  • Steve Burton
  • John Reilly
  • Edie Lehmann
  • Shaun Cassidy
  • Shirley Jones
  • Leonard Nimoy

ah I know I would forget someone on my list! I too have met Rena Sofer, ironically the most recent GH actor I met at the grocery store several months ago.

Does this mean in person?

If online, the I've interviewed Matt Reidy and Paul Parducci, and spoken with Brian Patrick Clarke, and will be interviewing him and hopefully Kathleen Gati- whom I'm in email contact with.

What's wrong with being standoffish in meeting new people you've never met before? I don't understand this complaint or criticism. There's nothing morally wrong with being aloof or standoffish when meeting new people.

I have to admit that I'm far from being the warmest or friendliest person, especially not when meeting new people. I'm sure that if I was a famous actor, there would be tons of stories circulating about how rude or cold I am was meeting fans.

When I was in graduate school, I had several nicknames, the most common was the ironic nickname of 'teddy bear' and I was sometimes called 'Surly-O's', because the joke was that instead of having Cheerios for breakfast, I had 'Surly-O's. I was also sometimes called 'Mr. Sunshine'. another ironic nickname.

It was many, many, MANY years ago, but she was very nice and warm and seemed genuinely appreciative at being recognized. And while I also thought she was a pretty woman on TV, I was totally unprepared for how beautiful she actually was in person.

I agree there's nothing wrong with it. I just get that impression from Kimberly's own reports of experiences she had at NYU. She simply gives off a vibe of over self-importance. But being standoffish in and of itself I don't have a problem with. It just amused me that off that whole list of actors justavictim24 rattled off Kimberly would be the one who was least friendly

The problem with it is that these are not ordinary people. They are people whose jobs depend on the fans watching their TV show. If the fans stop watching, they are out of a job. So the least they can do is be friendly and show some appreciation even if they have to fake it.

Granted Kimberly was off GH for years. So of course while she was at NYU she had no obligation to be friendly to anyone who spotted her. But her little anecdotes imply that she seems to feel people in NYC attached so much importance to "Robin from General Hospital". Then she acts like anyone doing an 80's tell all is copying her work, like GMAFB beyotch. She's someone that if I saw her irl I'd be extra sure to act like I had absolutely no idea who she was

Don't you think you're asking an awful lot of people who are, after all, only human? Are you always happy and cheery with everyone you meet 24/7/365? You never have a bad day, you never have a moment where you surly and don't wish to be bothered?

This is not just about her interaction with fans. I've heard first hand from production people that she HAS been difficult in the past. I can't say or don't know about how she is currently.

Well, you may be right. But, I don't like running people down based on hearsay. I know that in Port Charles, hearsay is sufficient to get a murder conviction and send someone to the electric chair, but I try to be a little fairer than the fascist state that is Port Charles.

The one thing I do know is that in soaps if you're difficult to work with, they fire you, they don't hesitate, they won't put up with divas because you have to work so closely with people that it's insane, you really are like a family, and you can work with the same people for decades, so you really are expected to show your ego the door. And Kimberly McCullough has been on GH since 1985, almost literally her entire life, and every time she tries to quit, they just keep bringing her back. I can't them doing that for someone who was really difficult to work with.

That's the price of fame. These are people who actively sought out stardom. If you want to be actor and remain obscure, go do regional theater.
