Discuss General Hospital

If you watch the show live, then you no doubt know what commercial I am talking about, the ad for Progressive auto insurance that parodies soap operas, and which features Susan Lucci.

Sadly, I think it might be a better soap opera than what we are getting with GH right now. The dialogue is certainly better.

"Who was there for you when you had amnesia?"

"You know I can't remember that!"

There are apparently 3 different versions, this is one:

The sets are definitely much better.

The only complaint I had was they get the most iconic daytime star Susan Lucci on board ... and all they can tell her is "Go back to your room Susan Lucci"?

She's not even supposed to be playing herself in the commercial. I thought it would be humorous if they threw in a line about the daytime Emmys in but then they already did that with her before.

Not sure what the hunky guy should have said to her.

There are three endings to the commercial, in addition to the one I posted, there is one where she says

"I too have awakened from my coma"

And the man responds "It's called a nap, Susan Lucci"

And there is another where she says "I used up all our mobile data"

And the man responds "damn it, Susan Lucci!"

I don't generally watch commercials, but I kind of like this one, and I hope they follow up with some more chapters.

By the way, if you've ever seen Futurama, "All My Circuits" is also a better soap than GH, and Calculon is a better actor than 90% of the people who are currently on the show.

Huge fan of "All My Circuits" ... and also "It Never Ends" and "The Days of the Week". 😄

My favorite line from an episode of 'All My Circuits', Calculon walks in on his wife in bed with another robot, and we get the following lines:

Calculon, I thought you were....

Egyptian?

The Lucci ones are clever and play off her characters' narcissism.

Which is why I LOVE them.

I admit they made me laugh. "But I was in a coma!" and "You know I can't remember that!" grinning

And don't you love the exaggerated acting style, the way that guy says 'I was in a coma!' just cracks me up, I think he could say just about any dialogue in that tone of voice and I would find it hilarious. I have the suspicion that it is probably a parody of the acting style of some actor on another soap that I'm not aware of, it just seems like something that is intended to be an impression of someone.
