Really?!

No offense, but can't we just say "queer" at this point? I know it was derogatory for a time, but it isn't anymore, and it kind of seems to cover it all. The alphabet game has sailed clear past ridiculous.

"Queer is an umbrella term for sexual and gender minorities who are not heterosexual and/or not cisgender." Boom. Sounds like it covers it all.

There are heterosexuals. All else are othersexuals. Gender is a silly concept w no scientific backing, and cisgender is a term with no meaning, as sex is not assigned, but determined at birth or in utero. The only exception are the few poor folks born with both sets or a mixture of gonads from both sexes.

Happy?

Queer is actually a more potent political term. Gay has always been such a 'gay' term to use, and was coined to counter the stereotype of depraved and depressed homosexuals. Queer is a more embracive term that says we are odd and different, so what?

I know you're intentionally not printing the whole thing, but I feel the need to do so regardless, it is LGBTTQQIAAP, which stands for "lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, transsexual, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, ally, pansexual"

I'll go ahead and admit something here that is a little embarrassing: I am over 40, I am an educated professional with a Ph.D., I read anywhere from 50-100 books, most of them non-fiction, every year, I am the undefeated Trivial Pursuit champion of my department when I was in graduate school, among people who have known me personally, I have had nicknames such as 'Mr. Know It All' and 'Professor Google' due to my reputation for having very wide, general knowledge....in short, I think I'm a pretty smart guy....and I have no idea what half of those words mean.....and I'm not sure I want to know...

What gets me is why are civilized cultures the only ones with transgenders?

Are there any transgenders walking around tribes in Africa?

Two spirit is the Native American term for it, and similar terms abound w other cultures.

The first 3 are obvious- transgender is the modern form of transvestite, basically- you forgot the third t- for Two Spirited, which is the nat Am term for trans, queer is obvious, questioning is the 21st C form of bi-curious, intersex is male and female sexed- both sets, or parts of both, asexual means just that, ally means pal or friendly to the othersexual movement, and pansexual means you'll **** anything from a toothbrush to a tree knot.

The other big thing is, why are some people so insistent on defining themselves solely on the basis of their sexuality, which is quite possibly the least important or interesting aspect of a person? If someone was to ask me 'who are you?' I can't imagine that the first thing I would say is 'well....I like to put my penis in this particular location', I mean, I like to think of myself much more broadly than that.

It can’t be too long. I mean, the show is only half an hour...

I agree. I am me, I am a thing. I live. I am human. I am a male. I am an artist, writer, poet, playwright, critic, novelist, essayist, son, husband, friend, agnostic, social liberal, political moderate, cat lover and animal lover, and then maybe I'd think of heterosexual.

It shows what hormones do and how they control so many.

I've been familiar with the LGBT, but all the other added letters have become ridiculous. Why not just say heterosexuals and non-heterosexuals? That covers it all.

No aromasexual? This erasure has to stop!

I actually wasn't. I was just quoting Oscar. When I looked it up to make sure I had the letters right, I saw there were actually even MORE, but I was just quoting Oscar in my post.

I have tried to be tolerant, but I stop at "Q." It was already becoming silly by that point.

I agree with your point about labels. The only conversation I can think of where I lead with my sexual orientation/identity is a conversation about sexual orientation/identity. And for a group of people who claim to hate labels, they sure have a lot of them.

Why even distinguish the sex diff between L's and G's?

It's good for the Post it biz.

I've never understood the differentiation between male and female homosexuals. Why do women need to be called lesbians? Why not both call themselves gay? And I also don't understand why "questioning" had to be an added category. Most people know by adolescence what camp they belong to.
