Last night I looked up General Hospital on the YouTube app and the first videos that came up were Susan's murder in 1983. So I started watching even though I saw it all in 1983. I enjoyed watching the old episodes way more than I enjoy the current episodes. I had forgotten so much that it's like watching them for the first time. It was wonderful seeing a much younger Alan and Monica, along with Edward, Lila, Jimmy Lee Holt, Grant Putnam, Susan Moore, a young Scotty and Heather, Lee and Gail Baldwin, Steve and Audrey Hardy, Rick and Lesley Webber, a much younger Robert Scorpio, Heather's mother Alice Grant. Jason was just a baby. The writing and acting were so much better back then. There are 113 video clips for this storyline and I've watched 1-21. But the clips are only between 7-10 minutes each so it won't take long to watch them all.

This is one of my all-time favorite stories (although I was sorry to see Susan die, she looked like a sexed up Mary-Ann). I still remember the scene of her being shot dead in her bedroom by an unseen killer. That's when they still made good old fashioned whodunits, even it Crane Tolliver was kind of a cop out.

The show had life back then, and it was contagious. I remember watching GH one afternoon and my dad (who couldn't understand why both his sons would watch a daytime soap) came in and set for a bit. I remember his liking Amy Vining and during a commercial break said, "Yeah, I can see how this could get addictive." LOL

That was a great story! I rewatched most of that when Drew became a Quartermaine.
Aside from the Frisco and Felicia saga, which I watch in whole or part every 3 or 4 years ( heart_eyes ), Laurelton is another favorite. I also tend to watch the Carly storyline from time to time. SJB was born to play 90's Carly.

After I finish up with Susan, I intend to watch the beginning of the Carly storyline. Not sure at what point I will stop but probably when she hooks up with Sonny.

That's pretty much when Carly died.

Yup, that is when it started to turn to crap

Prometheus Disk and Susan's murder had crossovers- there's one Susan scene where we see Grant get a call from a DVX guy but we don't know it at the time, and the editor of the clips never put it in the Prometheus tale.

Laurelton was good. Left Handed Boy and Ice Princess. Heather and her crazy cellmate was good. Reminded me of Prisoner: Cell Block H. I loved that Aussie soap!

Speaking of murder mysteries, I also like the Beatrice LeSeur one. She was the nasty, money-grubbing mother of Jimmy Lee out to make everyone's life miserable via various blackmail schemes. At the opening party for Lorena's spa, Beatrice drops dead and poison is suspected. After months of lead characters taking turns as the prime suspect, it turns out that half the town killed her by each one slipping something into her drink that individually was not enough to kill her and none of them knowing what the others had done. Holly was among them, poor Robert.

And of course the whole Bobbie/Ginny story over who killed D.L. Brock. It wasn't a mystery since we knew what happened, but it was great must-see TV as followed each twist and development pulled the characters in different directions. Very much classic soap storytelling.

They never shd have killed off Brock. Groh nailed that slimy guy. He cd have been a good 'realistic' villain.

Villains always deteriorate over time. Within a year or two they would have turned him into a Bond-level big bad hellbent on desalinating the world's oceans to corner the market on iodine.

WEll, they saved those type baddies fr the A stories. You had B level bad guys for the B stories- thugs- like the Mobster between F Smith and the Duke. Brock was more that level, or the guy who raped Franco.

Yeah, but both those examples are short-lived villains.

Yes, but w Judith Chapman and some of those good 80s supporting actors, they could have done it. I guess Groh wanted to get back to prime time?

Perhaps, he did steady episodic television for the next two decades, up until his death at age 68

It might just be my opinion, but even my beloved Ginny Webber started to deteriorate towards the end. As much as I liked the character and the actress, the whole coerced affair with Derek Barrington and the subsequent, lazy who's-the-daddy story with Rick, Jr. was boring and eventually I just stopped watching the show altogether around the time she and Rick Webber moved to Manhattan to start over.
