Discuss General Hospital

I started watching GH in the summer of 1983 and recall much sexual tension and, eventually, a relationship between Edward Quartermaine's ******* son Jimmy Lee Holt and Celia Quartermaine, who I believe was a niece or cousin of Edward's.

This has bothered me for decades so I will finally ask here - was this not an incestuous relationship?

It would be like Michael and Brook Lynn having an affair but more chemistry than he has with Willow so I’m fine with it.

Holt was Edward's son and Celia was Edward's cousin Herbert's granddaughter, I believe, so they were like 2nd cousins, once removed.

Jimmy Lee and Celia were both Quartermaines but very distantly related. It's not like they were siblings, or even 1st cousins. There is a slight ick factor but it's not uncommon. I have very good friends, a married couple, who have been happily married for 38 years. About 10 years ago, the wife started tracing their family trees. She discovered that she and her husband have the same great-great-grandparents, making them 3rd cousins. Of course, she told her husband about it and that night when they went to bed, he said "goodnight cuz." She found it disconcerting for a few minutes and then they forgot about it. For centuries the British royal family married 2nd and 3rd cousins and procreated. That's how they kept "commoners" from tainting the royal bloodline. They don't do that anymore. Now they'll procreate with anybody. There are probably royal families in other countries who did the same thing.

I have read stories about cousins marrying and yes it still happens. I hope we one day find out why Edward disowned Jimmy Lee.

Well, if getting $20,000,000 from the family is getting disowned, I'll take being thrown out of the family!

Well, there is serious inbreeding in all the Royal Houses of Europe, so while one case won't do it, generations of 2nds and 3rds ******* around will leave you with the load of crap that the Royals are.

I saw Gone With The Wind on TV one time and it was the scene were some farmer or something proudly delivered the news about ___ married his cousin.

Uh, so what is the exact rule about marrying cousins? Uh, you understand that this is for general knowledge and not, uh, for me. eyes

I think it depends on the state. Some states require that you be past child-bearing before you marry a first cousin. Here is the wiki article that shows which allow it, which don't, etc.

I have to laugh at North Carolina: Yes, for first cousins, except in the case of double first cousins. I'm not even going to ask.

It means they share ALL four grandparents.

I think that means there's male twins who marry another set of sisters who are twins too. Like Anna/Alex marrying Adam Chandler/Stuart Chandler

Isn't that 2 ways of saying the same thing?

I actually have this in my family, but none are twins. Two of my aunts married men who are brothers, which means the kids also share 4 grandparents.
