I hope they don't seriously want to put these two together. Austin is a fairly boring character.

Who else could they put her with? Victor?

Ugh hopefully neither. I'd say bring in someone new for her. Would love to see her opposite Dan Feuerriegel (EJ DiMera, Days of our Lives) but he's not going anywhere. Maybe they could bring temp Nik back in a different role. They had mad chemistry.

RH and Laura Wright were good as Todd and Carly but sucked as Franco and Carly. It's not the actors but the actors and the writing.

He'll up his game once he's paired with Ava.

I was trying to remember if these two actors were paired up on As the World Turns. I know their characters (Carly Snyder and Paul Ryan) did interact, but I can't remember if they were ever romantically involved on ATWT. Anyway, as daytime soap performers, they've worked together for many years now.

You watched ATWT too?

I watched off and on over the years but began watching regularly from about 2005 through the end of the show.

Maura West (Carly Tenner) was romantically linked with Jon Lindstrom as Craig Montgomery but I don't think with Paul Ryan (Roger Howarth) mainly because she kidnapped his sister Jennifer's baby even though Craig had already switched the baby with Carly's sister's baby so she actually kidnapped the wrong baby and hauled it off to New York ... or something like that.

I didn't see all of Kin Shriner's tenure there so not sure if Maura was romantically linked with him as well but she was a suspect in his murder.

I began watching ATWT in the 80s. As such I only have this to say.... RH is NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT Paul Ryan. Never was, never could be. It's how the sonny fans say that about MB. LMAO.

And actually, better comparison.... RH is as different from the original Paul as CamMat is from Billy Miller.

I would say around 2005 is when As the World Turns started to go into serious decline. You missed some good eras. The best era, in my opinion, would be the years when Doug Marland was head writer from 1985 to 1993.

I am a distant cousin of Colleen Zenk who played Barbara Ryan from 1978 till the show ended in 2010. Her father and my grandmother were first cousins, and they were raised together in Illinois. When Colleen's father died in the 80s, my grandparents traveled down from their farm in Wisconsin to the funeral...and my grandmother was embarrassed because my grandfather kept trying to get story info out of Colleen, years before spoilers were fashionable. LOL

In our family, CBS soaps ruled-- my grandmother only watched CBS soaps as did my mother. In the 1980s, we watched The Young & the Restless, As the World Turns, Capitol and Guiding Light...the whole CBS daytime soap schedule. Since my grandmother was related to Colleen, ATWT had special significance for her and that soap was talked about most by all our relatives.

While I liked ATWT and the other CBS daytime shows, my favorite soap of all time was (and still is) Search for Tomorrow, which I followed from CBS to NBC in 1982. It aired at noon on NBC in our area, so when CBS soaps took a break for a noonday newscast, my sister and I would switch over to NBC and watch Search. It was the first time we watched a soap on another network, but that is because we were already familiar with it, since it had previously aired on CBS.

My other grandmother, who lived in Chicago, was a fan of NBC soaps. She got hooked on Search when it switched over to "her" network...but her favorite was Days of Our Lives. My grandfather had already retired at that point and was at home during the day, but my grandmother was still working full time. So in 1982, they were the first ones in our extended family to get a VCR...and my grandfather would record Days of Our Lives, cutting out all the commercials. And when my grandmother came home from work, he'd watch it again with her, without the commercials, while dinner was cooking. In 1983, I spent the summer with them...and during that time, I would watch Days of Our Lives twice a day with my grandfather. So I became very familiar with those characters and stories. I did get hooked on Days, but never watched it as consistently as I did Search or all the CBS soaps.

When I was in college in the mid-1990s, one of my professors got me the job on General Hospital as a production assistant (which I am grateful for, of course). But the truth is, I had never watched ABC soaps up till that point...and I really was trying to get a job on The Young and the Restless since I had corresponded with Bill Bell.

When I was at the GH studio which is on Prospect in Hollywood, there was always a live feed up in the business offices. So we could see what was happening down on the floor, while taping occurred. And if the cast and crew were at lunch or on a break of some kind, the live feed would switch to what was happening in New York at OLTL's studio. As a result of that, I became familiar with OLTL. I don't recall ever seeing a live feed of what was happening at AMC, but it might have been on in the background while I was busy working.

I never became very familiar with Loving/The City...but when The City was about to be axed, I remember having a conversation with one of our producers who was working with Wendy Riche to pitch what became Port Charles. Wendy wanted to get that time slot.

I still kept up with the CBS soaps during this time, even though I was supposed to be focusing on ABC's shows. I think I was still hoping that I could get a job with the Bells at Y&R or B&B. But looking back on it now, it was really better I was at GH in 1995 and 1996, because the show won two consecutive Emmys for outstanding daytime drama under Wendy Riche and Claire Labine, and that was definitely a strong period for the show. So I was there at the right time.

I ended up working on a sitcom after this, and then into radio...then finally into two other totally different careers away from the entertainment field. During 2003 to 2004, I had become friends with one of the producers of SoapTalk, which aired on SoapNet and featured Lisa Rinna and Ty Treadway as hosts. SoapTalk taped two episodes on Friday evening and three episodes on Saturday morning/afternoon. It was produced at another sound stage at ABC/Prospect. My friend kept me on the guest list, so I was over there almost every Saturday when I wasn't working and I'd watch them tape at least three episodes of SoapTalk each week. It was fun to go back there, as it had been a few years since I'd been at GH.

SoapTalk was 'cheesy' and not a great show, but the one good thing about it was SoapNet flew a lot of New York-based soap stars in to be guests, so it was a good way to see/meet a lot of other people in the daytime TV industry...

I've never stopped watching soaps. And after shows like Guiding Light and As the World Turns ended in 2009/2010, I became more interested in soaps from Britain, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. General Hospital is the only American soap I still watch. I hate saying this, but I find Y&R totally unwatchable these days and it has not been the same since Jeanne Cooper died in 2013.

If As the World Turns, Guiding Light and my beloved Search for Tomorrow were still on, I'd still be watching them. Fortunately, I have collected a lot of episodes and scripts from Search, so I can go back and enjoy that show.

Anyway, I know this was a detailed and long-winded reply LOL...but I wanted to give a sense of history. :)

Ava & Austin are already being called JOLT as a couple.

Can't really combine their first names together or you get AVA, AUSTIN, AUVA, AVSTIN so I guess they went with their last names.

What has soap fans got to do with BENNIFER, BRANGELINA, JELINA, KIMYE, TOMKAT, etc?

I liked the developing relationship between Austin and Britt, and I’m liking the developing relationship between Austin and Ava. I can totally see them as a couple. I really couldn’t stand Austin with Maxie, there was zero chemistry there. Zero.

Jolt sounds like a caffeinated drink

Okay, not about Ava and Austin, but I was struck by what seemed to be chemistry between Liz and Drew when they ran into each other at the rehearsal dinner.
