Discuss The Leftovers

Season 1 was the best season all the following seasons are just too weird and all over the place! Do you agree?

The first season really compelled me. It really made me feel like they are living in THE END OF TIMES or an apocalypse, but from season 2 on it just goes all over the place. Its like the writers just want to just keep adding the more weirder the better story lines that don't really go anywhere. I really liked Kevin's daughter and her friend trying to be teens during these weird end times in season 1, it actually seemed realistic.

But season 2 on seems like a total different show. Where you don't seem to care as much since it seems so extremely weird. I mean whats the purpose of having cast members from Perfect Strangers through out the show pop in. Is the writer or producer a big fan of the show Perfect Strangers? Did I totally miss the point of all that?

All in all, still enjoy the show, but I'd wish it was a bit more realistic like the first season. Now that Kevin can't be killed its like well why even care whenever he's in a tight spot, he can't be killed right?

I never liked John at all. He was a total jerk when he was terrorizing Eddie Winslow when Eddie wasn't doing anyone harm they beat him up and burned his house down and look John ends up doing the same thing Eddie Winslow was doing even worse he has Kevin's ex on the ear piece Googling intel for him while he's performing these scams!

John seems to have total bad karma and he lived a reckless thug life its like you see why his own daughter goes and runs away.

But yeah your theory could be true about it all being in Kevin's head like he's just imaging the whole thing from a psych ward, that would be pretty disappointing though wouldn't you think?

What is the significance to Perfect Strangers though? Is the writers/producer just a big fan of Perfect Strangers?

Yeah it seemed like Isaac (Eddie Winslow) was legit. Like when he warns John that something bad is about to happen to him, he truly is concerned for his well being. It didn't make sense that John was such a terrible jerk thug terrorizing him in the first place and it seemed like him and his co-workers of fire fighters all went out to go "witch-hunting" as well. I didn't like John at all from the start nor did I really care for his daughter missing or when she started re-appearing with the GR for that big season finale stunt on the bridge. So with that being said I didn't care at all for John or his daughter seeing that they are the only 2 who are really in the show from this point on.

I honestly have not paid that close of attention to details as you kudos to you for finding all these other hints or clues. I really hope its not like a LOST finale where everyone's dead or worse we see Kevin's in a mental hospital just imagining all this crap.

As for Perfect Strangers it was a cheesy sitcom from the 1980's about a guy Larry who was like a dork who had his weird foreign cousin Balki move in with him and it was all about the adventures they got into. Balki was from a weird foreign country so he kept making mistakes about our American culture from the way he talked and did things. The two cousins often got into trouble mostly because of Balki not knowing what was the right thing to do in American culture and our customs and Larry was a bit of a dishonest guy who would take short cuts or just do dishonest things so Balki would often call him out on it and it lead to tension between the two. The show was not anything great it was a pretty awful show to be honest lol. But it was part of the ABC TGIF line up which included: Perfect Strangers, Full House, Step By Step, and Family Matters, which had Eddie Winslow aka Isaac in it as the main son of that show. So I thought the producer of The Leftovers were big fans of TGIF or something since they keep referencing it and had TGIF actors randomly throughout the series for no real good reason at all its not like they belong in The Leftovers or fit into the storyline???

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how the show ends and I'd love to check back with you to see your thoughts on the ending. How much further do we have? How many more episodes to go? Whens the finale to air?

Tonight's episode was WEIRD! LOL. I mean it was an orgy cruise obsessed with lions? ummm WTF? WTF was the point of the naked submarine guy being totally naked with his penis swinging as he was being chased in the submarine? Did I like totally miss something? They did the same thing with that season 2 opener and that cave woman giving birth like WTF was the point of that at all?

I do remember wondering why all his shirts were missing and then we saw all his shirts when we saw his torture hideout spot in the woods? I'm sorry I'm not really so focused or attentive to details. I'm not even really catching all these books and their significance. But thanks for answering that theres 3 more episodes left.

LOST actually started off very good. The pilot was actually the best episode and as the season 1 went on it really sucked you in. But as the seasons went on it went all over the place. They did all these flashbacks, flash forwards , and even flash sideways. Yes flash sideways like WTF is the point of a flash sideways since it basically had nothing to do with the plot or story line what so ever it was literally like a filler episode that had absolutely nothing to do with the show at all.

Again as the title of this thread, I really liked the first season of The Left Overs. I felt Kevin and his daughter and her bff trying to figure things out day to day was very compelling and I like him being vulnerable and the voice of reason or the one we could count on that was sane in that crazy world. But now its like everything is so all over the place. Kevin can't die and if he does he comes right back to life like nothing happened, I mean whats the point of being concerned or worried for him at all.

I wonder what they can pull of in this final 3 episodes?

They said they were paying homage. Why I don't know.

NEVER saw LOST ... only caught the ENDING of it onetime while flipping through channels ... and had NO IDEA WTF was going on.

Some of us , even after watching every episode, felt that same way.

Come on though really? Being naked allows him to stretch more to do the 2 man key turn? Not buying it lol and what exactly was the point of all that who was that and what does that have to do with the story line or there other characters? Again the cave woman giving birth in season 2 opener literally had nothing to do with the show whats so ever right? LOL

Did we really have to see his penis swinging like that for a good 5 minutes? LOL

Interesting on Kevin being immortal only in Jardin. So Matt thinks Jardin is some magical place for Kevin at least right? I Did like the episode where Matt goes to the casino to win the money to save his church that was a good one and lets not forget he murdered or brutally beat the sh*t out of that guy who tried to rob him in the parking lot.

I'm starting to wonder if the producers of the show just wanted to vacation in Australia for a long extended time so they decided to move the show there because so far it doesn't really seem necessary to the story line so far LOL.

Again I can't stand John even this more calm, laid back version wearing his glasses. Are we just supposed to forget he literally terrorized his old neighborhood beating neighbors up and burning houses down and he literally shot and killed Kevin? I forgot why did John leave his wife for Kevin's ex wife exactly? Did they even explain that or did John's wife just go missing?

I think the orgy cruise would have been better if they had some more attractive people in it?

Anyways I enjoy your responses and attention to the fine detail that I am not so focused on. I appreciate it. I can't wait to see how it all ends!

LOL that is probably the most random weirdest selection of an obscure mediocre cheesy 80's show to pay homage to! I mean some may argue that Balki is a total rip off of Andy Kauffman's Latka character in TAXI.

Yeah the flash sideways was a total cop out. I mean flashing sideways literally has NOTHING to do with the storyline or show whatsoever. It's like a total different show that serves no purpose being an episode of LOST.

rofl I am enjoying your comments.

I just commented in another thread how John is now so laid back and just goes along with/agrees with anything and everything. Never was shown how John and Laurie wound up married, they showed Erika living in another state ( forgot where- Invidia can tell you smile ) when Nora went to visit her.

I totally agree.

ScorpionQ2 thanks! I just really feel the first season was my favorite. It felt like how one would feel like going through the actual end of times days and apocalypse verses the following seasons are like WHOA I hope it circles back and all serves a purpose or makes sense in the end.

The only thing I will ever allow myself to remember about Lost is Nestor Carbonell.

...and I actually own boxed editions seasons 5 and 6- hangs head in shame

Yes, let's hope grinning

I honestly don't remember Nestor sorry I think I forgot most of the show. I did feel the actor who played Sayid was by far the best actor in the show, but of course him being of Indian descent would unfortunately limit his roles after LOST. (which is messed up since he totally rocked!)

Like I said, I purposely forgot.

Nestor was the guy who never aged on Lost . He recently played the sheriff on Bates Motel .

Agreed, the Sayid guy had a short lived role on Once Upon a Time, I haven't seen him in anything else.
